Motorbikes hit the road in Mario Kart Wii photo

Did you know?: Mario Kart Wii now contains motorbikes! Yup, that's about the news right there. Not much more to say. Pretty cool, right? But how will they change the gameplay, if at all?

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. There were cars, hovercrafts, and planes in the highly underrated Diddy Kong Racing for the Nintendo 64 ... I didn't see people freaking out about that one. I even thought that was a better game than Mario Kart 64, to be honest with you, but now I'm just asking for it, aren't I?

So if you weren't going to play Mario Kart Wii before, does the inclusion of motorbikes change your mind? And if you were going to play Mario Kart Wii before, does the inclusion of motorbikes change your mind?

I wonder if you'll have to move the Wiimote like handlebars to drive the bikes instead of doing the steering wheel thing?

I was going to play it regardless, but it's still a cool addition.

Diddy Kong Racing was better than Mario Kart 64.

But, Mario Kart DS was better than Diddy Kong Racing DS.

Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast is not comparable to Mario Kart Wii.

Everyone's going to buy this game regardless, but I don't like this adding of new vehicles. Seems like it's watering down the franchise.

What next, third party characters? Pah! I bawk at the idea good sirs.

I think that's a pretty fun addition.
Though it's a bit biased as it is Peach in the picture.

Diddy Kong racing is my favorite racing simulator, with real time ballon popping.

They're gonna have to change the name to "Mario Last-Ditch-Effort-For-Fresh-Vehicles-That-Isn't-Necessary-Racing" because with motorcycles it's not really mario kart any more... Seriously, the game is plenty fun without adding motor cycles. I'm glad they scrapped the 2 people per car thing, though...

Holy shit! Motorbikes! Now I have to get this game! That's 100 times more exciting than Sonic in Brawl!

Seriously though, there's a rumor going around that you'll be able to race online with up to 12 players and that there will be online time trial leaderboards. If those things turn out to be true, this game will be bad ass.

Maybe they're just alternate vehicles for some people, I mean, MK:DS had Waluigi riding a motortrike, and also included an excavator and a vacuum-cleaner as cars.

The big deal is that this is Mario. Diddy and his co can ride motorbikes all day, Mario is still gonna be a bigger deal.

Mario Kart does need something new, though. Maybe they will make it more Diddy Kong Racing.

You guys don't realize how mind-blowingly awesome the motorbikes are.

What do you think will happen when you slip on a banana? When you're hit by a shell? Some silly spinning and clouds of smoke?

DISMEMBERMENT. BLOOD. GORE.

An awesome day for the internets indeed.

It'd be nice if they'd concentrate more on making the game play as well as it did on, say, the 64 and less on yuppie hooks like Peach riding a motorcycle.

Maybe these are just options. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just replace them. I just hope every one actually has a kart. I always had Toad's car in Double Dash, it just seemed right.

@brainderailment: they are just using the daytime texture set without weather, because it looks so much different from the nighttime textures!

Yea my guess is just options. You can choose what to race on. My other guess is that it won't make much of a difference what your on except for how it feels to drive. I don't think the bikes will have any special features, so really just anothe type of kart.

I think it's cool as long as the racers have unique karts/cycles like in the GameCube version (the dual-player set up is unnecessary, however). I like my racers to have a lil more characters to them. This screenshot makes me think otherwise, however.

Also, if they do include two-player co-op like on GameCube, do you think the cycles will get side cars? That'd be sweet! It would totally change the dynamic of how you attacked because you could only launch stuff off one side, forcing players to be swerving in and out to get the best attack angles. Hmm...

908peruvian how dare you.

Diddy kong WAS really great AND under rated, and believe it or not some people did think it was better than Mario Kart.

Not me, but.. you know, someone does.

Well, I’m sure this game + beer + college suitemates will rock anyway, but do the bikes have any special abilities aside from their looks? Like, will they be harder to control or go faster or something?

P.S. I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but Nintendo totally ripped off the design of that particular motorcycle (the one Peach is riding in the picture) from the PCJ-600 in the Grand Theft Auto games.
