MotionPlus not a Nintendo exclusive: Other people interested

InvenSense, the people responsible for creating the MotionPlus sensor that will soon make the Wii a complete product, have stated that as delighted as they are with the new relationship, it is not an exclusive deal.

"Of course we're incredibly pleased - delighted would probably be a better adjective - that Nintendo approached us... but it's not an exclusive relationship," stated InvenSense's Joe Virginia. "I can't get into details about other folks that are interested in this technology, but as you might imagine of course there is more interest out there."

Virginia was also quick to point out what his company's new add-on will do for Wii development: "With six degrees of freedom you can basically make any movement at all, and be able to track that in combination with the sensor bar and other sensors included in the Wii remote. Add the gyroscope capability and you have the ability to work in all three dimensions of space."

So, will Microsoft be courting InvenSense to add some depth to its mystical, fabled motion controller? Will Sony develop yet another piece of hardware to give us a DepthAxiShock 3? Who knows, or even cares?

I think it'll be more likely found in things not necessarily related to games. Like an iPod.

@JACK
At least something came out of this partnership. Remember when they announced AOL as their partner for online stuff with the Gamecube?

This is good.

The more people with waggle functionality the better! Right???

I just can't see MS or Sony putting this to good use if they decide to add it to their controllers.

didn't miyamoto say the wii already reach its peak in terms of hardware and software. why bother.

that's lead to a question. can nintendo have 2 systems. not just a porable and a console.

1 for the masses and family that so badly wants to integrate

and 1 for the core, with more power and targeted to more experienced gamers.

I still really want to have a go at the sword game in Wii Sports Resort to see how it handles. I'd really like to see someone utilize that 3D space mod for the Wii using Shades with LEDs on them.

It sounds more complex and everything but in all reality we will still be waggling and getting frustrated about the game/controller non response issues.

Doesn't the motionplus just do the same thing that the sixaxis already does? So why would Sony want it?

I see more wagglefest now...

I think the most of the problems comes from developers not knowing how to map out controllers. All Third party devs need to take a look at the Conduit where the player can customize their own layout for the game.. Fatal frame should take note..

I still think the Microsoft and Sony are still not sold on the whole Motion of gaming bit.

I personally think that 'waggle' will change from an insult into a good thing, if this is used correctly. The current waggle is difficult to implement because its highly innacurate/doesnt respond as we would like, but given this add on the games could actually be pretty darn fun and require some serious skill.

It may be able to be used with any company, but that doesn't mean the other companies will do it right. You've got to have something that'll initially work with the MotionPlus, like the remote. I can't see anything like this working with the current PS3 or 360 controllers.
