Remember when Aaron so somberly wept over the last shreds of hope regarding a proper translation for Mother 3? As it turns out, he wept a bit prematurely.

HarassmentPanda (which, we're going to assume is not his Christian Name), sent us a link to some work being done over at Mother3.org. They have just released the first video of their efforts on a translation for Mother 3 (aka Earthbound 2, aka Daddy Fat Sacks ...), and it looks fantastic. Ok, actually, it looks exactly like Mother 3, which is, to say, like an SNES game, but in that light, it's some gorgeous work.

Nintendo, this is the public telling you to go c****** f*** yourselves. If you don't want to localize a game we've been clamoring for since the dawn of time in proper King's English, we'll do it for you! Take that! Now you don't have to lift a finger to profit off of us! How does that feel?!

Guys, maybe this wasn't the right way to go about things ...

Does this game series have some kinda huge cult following about it? I've never heard of it. Also, is it true Nintendo and Sony came out with new systems recently?

It pisses me off that some fanboy granted up with Mother3 before Nintendo themselves did. I love Mother. Geez.

Out of curiosity, what does the c****** stand for? All I could think of was "chainsaw" but that doesn't even fit.

I can NOT wait for this translation project to be finished.
I've had so many friends play the import with a translation guide or something, but I can't pull myself to do it.
I've always loved EarthBound, from the humor to the storyline to the gameplay and ESPECIALLY the music.
Hell, I think I'm required to love the music considering I'm the guy who put the Bound Together Project together.
God this translation cant come fast enough.

I thought it meant 'cunting', but that just made me scratch my head.

In other news, I think I peed myself. The translation project can't finish soon enough!

"Nintendo, this is the public telling you to go c****** f*** yourselves. If you don't want to localize a game we've been clamoring for since the dawn of time in proper King's English, we'll do it for you!"

Heh, they don't do this for Nintendo. They do this despite Nintendo. They do this for the players who have been left out in the cold by Nintendo.

You know, when certain people say that Nintendo doesn't give a shit about its customers, it's little things like this that almost makes me start to believe it.

"Take that! Now you don't have to lift a finger to profit off of us! How does that feel?!"

The thing is... I predict that the vast majority of the people who utilize the translation patch almost assuredly will be playing it on an ill-gotten rom anyway, so it's not as though Nintendo will be profiting from this in some way. I'm not encouraging it (but not actively discouraging it either, mind you), I'm just saying that's likely how it's going to be. So, Nintendo will still lose out. Had they actually bothered to translate it themselves, they could have made a bit of scratch from it, but now... less than likely. And with the fan translation(s), Nintendo has even less incentive to make an official one. Why bother, when most people who care will have probably already played the fan translation, and only the truly hardcore fans would be willing to (re)buy an official translation?

But, of course, if Nintendo had just made the goddamn thing to begin with, we wouldn't even have this issue to deal with. >_>

Yeah, I'm a bit bitter. I'm someone who considered it to be a no-brainer that Nintendo would translate it, and when they did not, it was incredibly disappointing and annoying. Stupid stupid move on Nintendo's part (from my perspective, at least). So yeah, playing a fan trans will indeed be a way to stick it to the man.

I was following this translation since it started now its getting so close to being complete, and yeah I'm glad Nintendo aren't getting a penny from it.

w00t! Emulators ftw! Plus romhacking:

I would love nothing more than to play all my favorite old games on an actual nintendo console (I mean, other than the nes and snes I still have lying around...). But, it's too bad that the virtual console turned out to be what it is. I remember the first time I heard of Revolution, and how I thought this feature was essentially a form of "complete backwards compatibility" and that you'd just have to get online to download roms of all those classics. oh well.

Wario67: He's attacking with notes of music because of the battle system. If you attack to the beat of a monster's heart (which follows the music) you get combos. In most cases, it's a steady 1,2,3,4 type beat. You just have to get the right speed. Later monsters and bosses have a syncopated heartbeat that is more like 1,2,3 and a 4, ee and a 1, 2, 3 and a 4, ee and a 1.... and so on. It's a cool system, and if you can string together 16 hits, you do about 2.5 times the damage. Luckily, there is an item in the game that lets you practice on monsters to learn their rhythms.

I'm against emulation and ROMs but I want to play this... what do I do?

Ask that to nintendo. "Against emulation" ftl.

Srsly you could just buy the f****** cartridge from nintendo, and then download the rom, emulator and translation. That is allowed. Otherwise watch the youtube videos of Mother 3 and drool while everyone but you plays.
