Mortal Kombat Wii: New screens photo

Midway has just sent over some new screens for the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat series: Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Wii. What is sure to be more or less the same game you've played for years, now gets a Wiimote makeover. Still interested?

Scheduled to ship in April 2007 with the most complete roster ever, including more than 60 fighters from the entire Mortal Kombat® universe (past, present and future), a revolutionary Kreate-A-Fighter mode and Kreate-A-Fatality mode, plus a brand new Konquest mode and Endurance Mode, Mortal Kombat®: Armageddon™ promises to be the most complete, intensely lethal, fighting experience ever!

I wonder how long it will take devs to realise they don't have to utilise wiimote functionality for every frikkin game. It tooke them about a year to realise you didnt have to use touch with the DS (even though mario 64 used it hardly at all).

This came is going to suck. There are some games that the Wiimote feels very good with, and I think beat 'em ups aren't one of them.

Why is it that promo material every Wii game has to show some asshole user waving the wiimote around?

This game is bad and no amount of wild flailing can change that.

Scheduled to ship in April 2007 with the most rehashed roster ever, including more than 60 fighters from the entire Mortal Kombat® universe (48 of them forgettable in every way!), a busted Kreate-An-Uber mode and Dial-A-Fatality mode, plus a brand new Konquest mode and Endurance Mode, Mortal Kombat®: Armageddon™ promises to be the most broken, half-assed, fanboy-driven fighting experience ever!

I bought this on xbox. D'oh.

mmm well, seeing as 90% of the games out for the wii at the moment are horrible movie tie-ins, or poorly made FPSs, this is a breath of fresh air.

and I believe the developers mentioned you can use the classic controller if you don't like using the wiimote.

certainly looking forward to playing this, as since I completed zelda and wario ware, my wii is getting a bit dusty :(

I can speak from experience (having owned Dragonball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi 2) - playing fighting games with the Wii remote isn't all it's cracked up to be. Based on the above screens, MK:A doesn't look to be too much different.

I think Dragonball Z proved that a fighter is a whole other ball game on the Wii. It's going to be a lot slower and rougher on people when they have to start moving like a fighter does in a fighting game.

I look forward to what this game's potential can be, but am I excited about it enough to buy it? nah.

I'm not a MK guy. I like Soul Caliber and Virtual Fighter.

I can't wait to see the Street Fighter go to the Wii.
Mainly for the E-Honda bitch slapping... That would be an instant orgasm.

Note: I don't have a Wii, but might have to get one if the could do something that funny.

Dragonball Z for the Wii wasn't half bad once you learned the basic Wiimote + Nunchuk movements. those movements felt really close to the actual blast attacks your character made, so it really helped in putting you into the game. MK's gesture controls look like glorified button commands, which should NOT be the direction fighters should go on the Wii.

Haven't enjoyed a MK game since 2. In fact, that was pretty much the ONLY MK game I enjoyed.

Actually MK armageddon is the big reason why I keep my xbox around, it is not soulcalibur or even DOA but creating your own characters and then send them to kill each other is highly entertaining, I like the use of the wiimote for this one, replacing over complicated button combos (for a newb) with simple hand movements, pretty neat.

Heres some kaks that are quite fun to use in MK:
Kratos
Jack Thompson (my favorite to fight with)
CL (from GTA:SA)
Robert Summa ;)
Samus aran (from Smash Brawl)
Mario (Ultra realistic version)

I haven't been interested in Mortal Kombat games since MK1. The whole draw of the game was that they did really gruesome, insane stuff (for the time), but after that got old there was no reason to play Mortal Kombat any more.

I just miss the old-school Shaw Brothers movie-like character designs. You know, when they actually looked like they came out of a kung fu movie as opposed to some crap comic book characters my little brother drew in his book during math class.

I'm excited to play this. I think the way they chose to do the moves is pretty cool. They will be easier to pull off, allowing you to focus on fighting/countering.

All that said, Mortal Kombat gets old quick, so I will just rent it.

I'm gonna miss the old x,x,x and a,b,y combos (xbox version)

Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but I don't think that this is a good move for the Mortal Kombat Series. My dorm is full of MK fanatics, and we didn't like armageddon as much as deception. Besides character choice and an awesome story mode, there were numerous issues, including hits that didn't count, etc.

Now with the Wii controller scheme, I don't think the game will even feel the same. Call me crazy, but fighting games are about button combos.

As a Wii owner, I guess I'll have to try it and see how it comes out, but I'm skeptical. MK needs to get back to its roots ><

Too bad killer instinct died. It kicked ass on the SNES.

Why does it just seem like every wii game lately has just been pictures of what looks like a normal game with a hand holding a wiimote and an arrow super imposed over it.

Oh and Street Fighter easilys owns Mortal Kombat.
