Mortal Kombat Vita has a second Challenge Tower photo

Thinking back on how much I enjoyed Mortal Kombat, the upcoming PlayStation Vita version sounds intriguing, especially since I never got around to downloading any of the post-release characters. Over on the PlayStation Blog, NetherRealm Studios' own Ed Boon teases what's in store.

This version contains everything from the PS3 release and runs at 60 frames per second. Recognizing the Challenge Tower as being a good match for handheld gaming, the team decided to add a second one. This new one has 150 challenges, some of which make full use of the Vita hardware.

There won't be a touch-only mode, but Mortal Kombat will let you perform fatalities with the front touch screen for increased accessibility. I was fully prepared to pass on this version. They're not making it easy.

The fact that all the DLC characters come in the package sounds great. Glad it's running at a smooth 60 FPS like it was earlier when they spread true rumors of the "PSP2."

This will be my first fighting game on the Vita.

@PixelKnot93:

Hmmm. Indeed all the post release content is included. Straightforward port but, it is pumped to the gill with all the premium content and extra goodies. Sounds really good for someone that has never played the game and even more so for someone that just want to take all those experiences away from the couch.

Best fighting game this generation, if you ask me. Glad proper will be able to take the best from the home on the go!

I'll still pass on Vita simply because I don't want to but a portable system if I know I'll never take it anywhere, especially since I have a phone with a built-in gamepad.

Really looking forward to it, if you've got one of these social clubs in your area, definitely check it out, they're giving out $100 psn cards every day as prizes!

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the Vita versions of these console fighters are cross-compatible with the PS3 versions?

Probably not if it's going to include Touch-Screen specific Challenges.

@RockWallofMight359:

Do you mean if you can transfer save files and/or cross multiplay with a PS3? Ed Boon (MK series creator) stated in a PS Blog interview that cross multiplayer between devices/consoles is not implemented.

EB: No. We’ve been working with PS Vita for quite a while. We had a lot of conversations about what we could do with it; I thought it would be cool to have an extra bonus for players who bought both the PS3 and PS Vita versions. We talked about unlocking a new character, or having some sort of new mode that enabled you to control the game from your PS Vita…but unfortunately, it’s coming up on a year since the PS3 version came out and we never found a way to marry the two versions together.

Hope that helped! :)
