Mortal Kombat: Legacy continues to introduce us to all the major Kombatants from the Mortal Kombat universe. Episode 4 tells us the story of how Shao Kahn captured Sindel, the creation of Mileena and other sh*t we already know about this series.
I don't know about you, but I was expecting fights to the death in Mortal Kombat. Not all this backstory stuff that's been beaten into our heads since the early '90s. Even the new Mortal Kombat game retells EVERYTHING. I just want some good fights already.
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

I know I'm in the minority by saying this, but so far I'm liking this show. Not the best thing I've ever seen and episodes 1 and 2 were kind of meh, but so far I'm liking it enough that I'll stick around.
So yeah, I realize that MK is one hell of a campy series, but GRRR. Ep3 was total shit. Just utter and total shit. And it's not my hatred of Johnny Cage speaking either. Episode 4 is ok, but Im starting to doubt this shit real quick.
Wasn't the point of this series to sort of reboot the mythos? I thought Baraka showed up in the concept video as an evil twisted surgeon or something? Why the hell are they just rehashing the established lore? That was never the appeal of the original concept in the first place.
as disappointed as i am for them dropping the original Baraka concept ( and by extension, probably reptile.) i think this series is pretty alright. this ep. was kind of crap, 1&2 were pretty good ( loved seeing Kano lose his eye to a FALCON PAWNCH), and I thought 3 was the best. Besides, I think everyone can agree that we're all in it to see the awesome that will be the Scorpion vs Sub-zero brawl.
I'm glad I can't relate with the morons hating on a free show with decent actors, high quality, mature content, based on one of our biggest game series. What the hell is wrong with you guys. This is why we can't have nice things. (hope they release these on DVD as one cut together movie ala The Guild)
I don't get it. This is great stuff. I'm 1:49 in so far and I'm nodding and understanding whats going on. They are respecting source material more than anything I've ever seen. Baraka doesn't look the same no... But give me a link to a better Baraka.
Lemme start off by saying I never, never do this forum/comment/message board crap. Too many bottom-feeding trolls and 12 year olds pretending their testicles have descended to deal with. It's pointless. It's like talking to brick walls, except brick walls are smarter.
But for no real reason, I decided to make this the first time i say something.
I'm liking the show thus far. i like the actors they've chosen. I like the tone, the atmosphere. The writing isn't bad. I'm certainly not blow away, but I like what they've accomplished.
ry to comprehend that this is a web series. How many web series do u know with camera quality and acting of this calibur? Go ahead. Wasn't rhetorical. Tell me how many amazing web series u watch that blow u out of the water, esp. when it comes to action and special effects. wow! eally? That many??
It's a fucking web series. Not this summer's multi-million dollar blockbuster. Not the new fall show on Fox, or even FX. All of which have proven that bigger budgets and bigger names doesn't necessarily mean better - Suckerpunch, Ordinary Family, etc, etc. Yes, this is backed by Warner Bros but so what? It's on the internet. Do you even see any advertising for this show anywhere else? Despite all the disadvantages it suffers from, it's still a solid production.
I don't care if you're new to MK or been a gamer like me since MK was the crazy arcade game back circa 93... as long as you understand that over all this time, the lore has devolved to pure crap that makes no sense. So if they're able to pull out a decent, at least somewhat believable chronologically correct show out of all the BS, then it's a miracle and deserves a little more consideration. What exactly do you want? To make MK like that trailer, blah blah blah. Um... where would it go? Make it different from MK the games, and you have something similar to MK in name alone. For example, how would you work in Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion? Make them human? Okay. That might work. But then why even give it the MK brand? You have a world mostly made of supernatural fiction and you don't use it at all. On the other hand, make it too similar to the games and you have the aforementioned campy crapola. So what, praytell, would you do at the helm?
And that brings me to the final point. Don't talk shit (non-constructive criticism) unless you know what you're talking about and/or can do better. Do you have any idea what it takes to make films, movies, comics, games? And make them GOOD? Good fight scenes, good acting, good directing, good writing... I'm an adult in my late 20's and I know I can't. So I challenge you, produce a work of MK of this magnitude that is better than this. If Destructoid features your work and the masses pick it up, and millions of people love it, then I guess you were right at saying stuff like "this sucksz! B0ring. SuX0rs." Or whatever. My point is, be constructive with your criticism. Give creators something to work with when you give them feedback. It was the power of the fans that made this happen, right? I thought that was great. But if the fans troll it to the ground, the producers/investors will cut it off and you'll be left with nothing. And they won't want to take any chances on other projects, too. Not just MK, but other game licenses.
I hope I gave the trolls out there something to think about. I'm done here. My blood always gets agried up when I read these comments. So reply all you want, I ain't coming back. 'Nuff said.
I was kinda expecting this to be done like before launch, but anyway, I'm quite enjoying the series, thanks for letting me know the latest one is out, i'll watch it when i get home.
I thought Baraka was supposed to be a surgeon who went mad and attached the blades to his arms. Seems they decided to retcon all of that in favor of going back to the original lore.
I'm still liking what they're doing with the series, and to be honest I'd much rather them tell the Mortal Kombat story CORRECTLY than try to make it all super realistic.
This is a good show. It's staying true to the characters. We're not at the tournament yet, so you can't exactly expect fountains of blood yet. Quit whining, please.
Oh, wait, so this ISN'T based on that absolutely excruciatingly embarassing emo nonsense they put together last year? I've been avoiding this like the plague because I thought it had something to do with that.
MK works on the premise that the people involved KNOW it's stupid. Trying to Dark Knight MK up is the worst thing *ever*, and any association with such an endeavour would truly reveal who's 12.
Good read, and I agree with you. For a web serie, this is truly amazing work. It's fun to watch, it's free and it's MK.
I'm telling you man, it's the internet, people will cry and moan like a little bitch...don't let it upset you. Put these people on the set, have them meet the crew, see how much fucking work this serie can be, how dedicted those people are, and they will shut the fuck up :D
I'm enjoying the series. Feel sorry for those pretentious snobs who can't. Some people can only gain confidence by tearing apart another's creative work. Creative work they lack the imagination and skill to do themselves.

I don't understand what happened with this series. The original concept video was so much more interesting, with its completely different, more realistic take on the MK lore. This all just feels like a weird, slightly off but otherwise straight up retelling, but with few interesting fights and way too much time spent so far on one-off backstories. We need an actual underlying narrative here.

*watches 30 seconds*
Nope, still disappointing.
1 and 2 were kinda dull, but 3 brought da ruckus (dat Cage)
Before reading your comment I thought this was the third. I have since seen the third episode, and you are correct sir. Jhonny Cage ftw.
But for no real reason, I decided to make this the first time i say something.
