Ed Boon is an enigmatic dude. First of all, he allowed Dan Forden to put the classic "toasty!" taunt into the series, which took us over a decade to decipher the meaning of. Next, he denies then reconfirms the existence of Mortal Kombat Kollection on PC for Steam, Gamestop's Impulse, Direct2Drive, and Gametap. That guy!
Regardless of what Boon says, Mortal Kombat Kollection is now on Steam, ready to be downloaded -- and it includes online play. So why get it on PC when it's already available on consoles?
Well, you could always hook your PC up to a big screen using an HDMI cable and use any controller you want -- from a USB Super Nintendo controller to a Wii-mote. It also has the added benefit of most likely melting into pennies during a Steam sale. Given these compelling reasons, is anyone going to pick it up? Or are fighting games on the PC dead to you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Fighting games have never been a big genre on PC, but that seems to be changing. And there are some available, just not many:
BlazBlue Calamity Trigger
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
Guilty Gear X2 Reload
Guilty Gear Isuka
And Skullgirls is probably coming to Steam. I think it would sell like crazy, I'd definitely buy it.
And there's the whole MUGEN community, obviously.
And a lot of freeware indie fighting games like Vanguard Princess and Super Mario War.
Specifically in the context of what this article is about and what he is talking about he is asking (in a more verbose manner)
"Why put Mortal Kombat Komplete collection with 3 outdated games onto the PC but not release Mortal Kombat 9 on the PC?"
"Why put Mortal Kombat Komplete collection with 3 outdated games onto the PC but not release Mortal Kombat 9 on the PC?"
My guess is because NetherRealm Studios is such as small development studio.
They don't have a lot of games under their belt (2 retail releases total), and recently their only real offerings outside of last year's new Mortal Kombat are a Batman iOS game and a MK Vita Port.
IMO, once they hit their stride, if the demand is there, they'll make an effort to port MK 2011 to the PC.
Hmmm..
I would think the 360 version should. Windows 7 has worked with both 3rd party 360 controllers I've used, I don't see why this would be any different.
It is on sale on steam for 50% off. Unfortunately I was so stoked I bought it before realizing it was GFWL!
Also, this game runs great! And it even has different options for graphics filters, and the online lobbies for each game are all in one (Just press left or right to switch games.)
@Megamanx
Sorry to hear that man. I'm playing it on my macbook via Parallels and it's running perfectly. Maybe you should drop in a question through the Steam forums. I don't know much about troubleshooting, but try validating the game cache while you wait. That fixed my problem with Mass Effect 2 after I installed the dlc.
