I got a huge kick out of the Mortal Kombat reboot last year. Aside from being a bloody way to show the world how much I suck at fighting games, the title's story mode is one of the coolest things I've played in the genre in a long time. If you've held out on it, next week brings the "Komplete Edition" of the game, which packs in the original game and the four bonus characters released as DLC, Skarlett, Rain, Kenshi and Freddy Krueger.
Warner Bros. released a developer diary with a few talking points from developers. Now, Mortal Kombat is a good game and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it as a purchase, as I have had many hours of enjoyment from the title. But when one of your three main comments about the special edition of your game is that it's compatible with the version previously released, that's a sad statement. Sadder still that it has to be said.

I see some people are pissed about this but (and im not flame baiting here) did you guys rant like this about the upcoming fallout new Vegas disc with all the dlc because its exactly the same.
I bought mk on release day and I've no problem with this, its a klassic (hur hur) case of the late adopters getting a better deal deal and its in no way exclusive to the games industry.
Oh no. A year after a game's release, the developer has released a version which contains all of the DLC characters for all those who don't have the internet or could not afford them. They must be burned at the stake!*
@bakewell
Indeed that is the case. The thing that seems to be unique to the games industry is the consumers unbridled rage at the prospect. iFan's don't even blink at the annual release of previously withheld features. Gamer's are a unique bunch to say the least. Not unique in a good way, just unique.
As one of those gamers without an online system that Dale just mentioned, I'm beyond happy that this is coming out. Take my cash, Warner Bros. I wish more publishers would do this (and without the lame vouchers that almost totally negate the point).
"But when one of your three main comments about the special edition of your game is that it's compatible with the version previously released, that's a sad statement."
Pretty sure that statement was aimed firmly at Capcom.
So I didn't see a price. How much is this gonna be? At some point I may have to double dip since I bought this for 360 and I'd like to get it for PS3 cause you know, Kratos and stuff.
im hoping the compatibility packs become mandatory. im assuming they will be since they are now all on the disc. you shouldnt be able to go online unless u have the packs. rain n skarlet are my fave but i dont get to use them 3/4 of the time. most stupid lazy gamers online dont have the packs.
@Bakewell - I feel like the difference for most of these players is that the DLC included in Fallout New Vegas were massive and added a ton of time and content. I don't think most people are upset that it is previously released DLC, but rather that it is just 4 characters.
@Dale - I think the issue here is that it is a year after release and all they've gotten was 4 new characters. There is really nothing of note about this DLC.
But this isn't supposed to be a "super" sf4 or "ultimate" mvc3, just a goty edition which is a general game practice now, not a fighting game thing.
Thus this won't help the mk9 fgc at all other than make it easier for tournament organizers. Would really like to see nr make some effort though to update the game this year properly with more characters and all those freaking glitches fixed! That and the netcode for the online really needs some work.
People need to stop being outraged over every little thing. Komplete is just a name, they didn't sell you an "incomplete" game for $60 last year. Grow a set.
i mean this is only those for the Kollector's out there who missed out this game and want to get it everything on disc.
besides this is tournament friendly since you don't have to have an account set up with DLC on it.
plus it doesn't hinder the original owners of the game since well you can still play online with the current balance change unlike most capcom games(SFIV, MVC3)so i don't see the problem.
people bitch about how this game doesn't add alot, at the same time people would still be bitching if they added new things that would be exclusive to this version.
again this is aimed for the Kollector's. if you have the original disc then don't buy it.
im glad i waited for this game since im not really a big fan of the MK series besides MK Trilogy.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Exactly.... I really enjoyed the new Mortal Kombat but his is ridic.
It's ridiculous to get the new characters on the disc instead of DRM-infected DLC? Okay, sure.

*Sarcasm intended. Obviously :D

Really?
If this were capcom there would be:
-10+ new characters (not just previous dlc),
-balance changes/glitch fixes (and we all know mk9 needs those pretty bad, input bug anyone?),
-and a few new modes as well as improved old ones (more online features or in MK's case just a playable online)
-AND it would be $40 dollars

That was a pretty good shot at Capcom, though.

Side note I saw that boon was using khan in the vita preview, is he confirmed playable for the vita?
