Those designs are completely badass. However, the bland descriptions of the characters, terribly buzzword laden and generic descriptions of what exactly he wanted to do with the reboot from a gameplay perspective and the terrible grammar throughout the blog post give me an idea of why his pitch might not have been taken seriously.
But seriously, that's some fucking incredible artwork. It's a shame it got turned down, but concept art alone does not make a good game.
Note that I just dislike plot story when the single player story mode just boils down to having your character fighting another character, then advancing to the next round and repeat the proccess until you finally fight the boss character. Once you beat that character, then you get treated to some cinematic video or wall of text showing the ending for that your specific character player. I prefer the "Edge Master Mode" in the first Soul Edge game. That felt more like a story and enjoyable.
But seriously, this is the first time since the release of MK2 that anything to do with the series has elicted more than a sneer of contempt from me. They must have been mixing coke and quailudes in the boardroom to pass up on this (I mean, thats the kind of drug suit'n'table dicks do right?).
It's just that in the transistion from artwork into 3D, they turn into retarded looking puppets.
How can this idea be turned down? I mean the dismemberment game design really worked in Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. It added some new flavor to the fighting game genre where you have to be prepared and ready to loose a limb, thus not being able to perform some moves. It added some spice by making every match feel unique as well as a gives very satisfying feeling when you beat your opponent after losing a limb or two. In my opinion, this idea is what Mortal Kombat needs
MOAR! blood
and does anyone else see a slight resemblance to our very own Y0j1mb0
