I say bullshit. Sony already has the most powerful system on the market; it doesn't make sense to me that they're gonna be the first to jump to next-gen when they have so much more horsepower than their competitors. Also, the whole "Play our system and have an aneurysm" message this video seems to convey isn't a great marketing ploy... Then again, I've never claimed to understand the Japanese.
What happened to the 10 year cycle? I think they dropped it, like having no rumble.

@ Meowmicks: They've got more horsepower, but not "so much more" than their competitors. The gpu inside the 360 is arguably more powerful than the one inside the PS3. The difference is that the PS3 clearly has the more powerful processor, so while the A.I. and other stuff can be better, the graphics are almost at their limit aesthetically.
But yes, a new console would be a fucking waste of the already great hardware they have. And I'd be pissed and wouldn't buy it. I've already bought 2 PS3s.

It's got to be 3d gaming, they could not be that stupid. The ps4 is just a red herring. Unless they want to market an firmware upgrade of the ps3 to 3d gaming as the ps4. Which would be odd.
If ps4 is announced at e3 2010 I will come down Sony in a fire storm of RAGE. I JUST GOT MY PS3, DAMMIT. Also, 3D gaming is stupid.

... it wouldn't surprise me if Sony did do the video - they have a history of really, really, really bad advertising. The only decent Sony ads are the Kevin Butler ones (and even then they regressed a bit with the "insignificant other" ad which was like soooo much of their earlier advertising).

I'm amazed at the memory spans here. Sony has only recently delved into what could be termed relevant, engrossing and sane advertising. Seeing them regress back to utter insanity would not surprise me one bit. Plus, wasn't the old theme of the PS3 advertising "try a PS3 and spend the rest of your life living in a padded room"?

I've always hated sony's advertising but then again I hate just about all advertising I see. A lot of them play like they were conceived by the "EXTREME" guys from Harold & Kumar. EXTREEEEEME!!!!
I don't see Sony being the first to make a move. I think nintendo will be the first once their Wii stops selling ridiculously.
@eternaldeathslayer - the ps3 does have a technically inferior gpu, but it's a modded 7800 nvidea, but performs far better than the 7800s. We keep seeing games get better graphically, killzone 2 -> uncharted 2 -> god of war 3. We'll see what the next has in store. But you're probably right that we won't see a major difference between now and the end of the lifespan.
As for 360, while it technically has a better gpu base, we haven't seen 360 games look any better for awhile and they're still a ways behind killzone 2.

Mines been running strong (80bc, just upgraded the HD to 500gigs (100bucks, same seagate as the original hd) I love sony :) knock on wood.

Yep, me too was yelling: WHAT THA FUCK IS THAT, but when I read "please wait for a while", they're saying to the people waiting for a new sony system or 3D graphics to wait "a while" since they're still testing them, and (this is fiction now) cause of the failure of the subject guy in the video, they cannot release just yet.

If this is indeed a viral vid put out by Sony, then I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Once again, it's a video that tells us nothing but "This product is so AWESOME you will lose you mind!!!" It's simply insulting to try to have people think their product is great without telling them anything about it. I get it, it's too early for any detail on the next gen console to be released. But then don't try to hype the damn thing.

tylerstravis had it closest I reckon.... this isn't an advert for PS4, it's basically saying "hold on, you don't need PS4 for a while, we have 3D!".
To everyone complaining about the ten year cycle just because Sony supports ps3 for ten years doesn't mean they don't want to release something new. Just like they supported ps1 for ten years and ps2 is in it's tenth year. They've always done this.
