Portal just got another update, and rather than a bunch of cryptic Morse code and SSTV message, this patch has introduced an extension to the ending of the game. Remember how in the original ending you wake up in the parking lot and the game fades to black?
It doesn't fade to black anymore.
It's a short video, and I don't want to spoil it for you, so go ahead and watch it above, and then freak out appropriately in the comments below. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it to 3.11 before dying of excitement.
Note to other game developers: this is how you do a major announcement.
Jonathan Ross is an Associate Editor in Los Angeles who is obsessed with capybaras. Like, seriously, obsessed. If he's not playing Team Fortress 2 or getting into arguments about why PC gaming is superior, he's either off having a fancy dinner with lots of expensive wine, or sitting on the Destructoid IRC complaining that's he's not off having a fancy dinner.
Likes: Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter, Steam, everything Blizzard and Valve have ever made, playing Angry Birds on the toilet.
Meet the rest of the team
I'm not sure it is Dog, since he never talked before and it's never mentioned that he has anything to do with Aperture. It is a possibility, though. Whatever it is, I'm really, really excited.
I don't know about this being a joint Portal/Half-Life announcement, but "Thank you for assuming the party escort submission position" is a reference to this bit from the game.
...maybe the speech was from something else? No matter what you say, I NEED to believe that Gordon with a experimental Portal Gravity Gun is the reason why it took so long...
You need the new cheevo to get this. I just replayed the end without it and it was the same, although there is a voice as Glados is torn apart that says "Things have changed since you last left the building"
To everyone saying it was dog, NO! It wasn't dog, dog does not speak, he has little moans. Now stop it.
We already know the universes are crossed, we don't need something as cliche and convoluted as dog grabbing Chell to make them even MORE directly connected.
I don't think this is neccessarily connecting it to HLep3 (though I did expect to see Dog show up once I heard the mechanical sounds). It seems like the best guess is Chell's going to get dragged back into Aperture by her new A.I. masters. I really like the idea of the "boss" being these two robots. Valve could have some fun writing an evil robotic pair.
Maybe they were just activated as a failsafe after GLaDOS'S destruction. Or there were other sections of Aperture that she didn't control.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Do want, do want, do want, do want, do want...
IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THESE ROBOTS DRAGGING CHELL AWAY.
Damnit Valve, stop playing games with us. T___T
Good news for Portal fans, I guess.
Damn, it certainly sounds very plausible.
THANK YOU FOR ASSUMING THE PARTY ESCORT SUBMISSION POSITION
Would you also say this is something a possibly rogue robot from Aperture would say?
that's already true though isn't it? I thought there was mention of Aperature in Ep2?
TIME TO REPLAY PORTAL.
Listening to these thumps and walking sounds from dog, the Portal robot sounds alot more mechanical. Plus, I don't think Dog knows speech (yet).
>:'(
*fangirl scream*
Valve just got real.
Either way, as someone who loves Portal and for some reason hasn't played Half-Life, I get the feeling I got some major catching up to do...
You don't need the new cheevo, but you can't load a saved game to skip to the final battle.
Valve just keep cranking it up
