More portable Square-Enix: new Valkyrie Profile coming to the DS photo

Leaked scans posted by cblogger Urashima certainly point strongly in the direction of Valkyrie Profile making its way onto the DS, but you really can't help but feel bad for that poor game. It started as a PS1 title, got ported to the PSP under the moniker Valkyrie Profile:Lenneth, had a sequel released on the PS2, and now Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One is on its way to the DS. If the series had feelings, surely it would have displacement anxiety by now.

Of course, none of those things matter if you get titillated by Norse mythology, especially when found in your RPGs. If that sounds like a yummy premise to you, I'd definitely recommend backtracking and checking out the PSP port or the PS2 sequel if you don't own a PSP. Alternately, you could just wait for the new game, which will feature a new male protagonist named Wilfred and is rumored to have a new perspective from the previous titles.

We should have more detailed news in a few weeks, so we will keep you posted as soon as more info comes to light. I'm excited.

[Via IGN - thanks, Jonathan]

As long as it stays as far away from VP2's format, I will be a happy einherjar.

they should ditch this and work on getting FF 4 for the DS to the states.

as long as it's not a strategy rpg. i've had my fill of those (except for disgaea, which i'm waiting for with open arms and my pants down). ff crystal final rings whatever it's called is a godsend, finally a decent action rpg. now we just need a nice turn-based rpg (aside from ffiv, whenever that will be localized).

Really fun battle system, but the structure of the game is broken. I really want to finish it, but it really doesn't feel worthwhile to put up with the time limitations.

Yay! I got a mention!

@SPIDER PIG: tri-Ace doesn't have anything to do with the development or localization of FF 4 for the DS, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm actually working on a VP tattoo design for my shoulder blade, which should be a pretty good indication of how freaking excited I am about another VP game.

Well... VP is awesome... so here's hoping this don't suck.

I'd like to be excited about this but I can't.

VP1 was a masterpiece and my favorite RPG of all time, VP2 was garbage, it had nothing that made the first one so good, not to mention that Tri-Ace made Star Ocean 3 and Radiata Stories during the PS2 era and both games where complete crap as well.

Well maybe SO3 wasn't total crap, it was very mediocre and I'll leave it at that, so at this point I have no faith in Tri-Ace anymore, I'll give this the wait and see attitude but I've been burned 3 times by them so far.

Only thing I'm interested in thus far is the 2 SO remakes.

Let the series deal with its displacement issues and have it appear on as many platforms as possible, this is a great series.

Yay!

Hopefully its 2D sprites.

I'd hate it to go back to 3D for the DS.

What a nice surprise, a new DS game to get all excited about.

But these other games, I want to play them ... maybe it really is finally time to go buy a PSP.

I've already played through the first game, and it was a hoot. I'll look forward to this one. :O)

Like others before me, I must ask that you NOT suggest people play VP2, because it is terrible and not at all an indication of the high quality of the original.
