Tomonobu Itagaki's departure from Team Ninja (and also his legal action towards Tecmo) certainly dampened the hopes of any fans hoping for more Ninja Gaiden games -- especially when Itagaki clearly said he would never create another one. Of course, it's almost a year later, and with Yosuke Hayashi at the Team Ninja helm, it seems there may be hope after all.
In a recent interview with Kikizo, Hayashi commented:
"Regardless of what Itagaki-san said before, in time, what the consumers, the gamers are looking for is going to be the next chapter -- the future of an outstanding series ... We feel that we're in a position of being able to make that call, and to provide pure entertainment that's going to be enjoyed by action gamers and our fans. That calling is already there -- we feel it, and therefore we will continue to work towards a future for the series."
Hayashi has previously worked on Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword. Well, I can't say I'm shocked at this news. I didn't think either of the aforementioned titles were poor games, but I know when I feel like playing Ninja Gaiden, I reach for the original NES titles before the next gen stuff every time. Of course, I'm the minority here. Would you be thrilled to see more entries in the Ninja Gaiden series?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I'd be interested in how a Ninja Gaiden 3 would play out, but would definitely not buy it right away, I'd need to hear from others to see if they can still do it without Itagaki.
Bonus question:
I quasi enjoy the Ninja Gaidens on the NES, but really, it just makes me want to go play Mega Man, or Batman NES, which I would contend are harder.
High Def 2D Ninja Gaiden, awesome music, hard as tiger balls.
NINJA GAIDEN FUCK YES
As someone who has beaten all the Mega Man games (and most of the X series) and all the classic Ninja Gaiden games, I think you're crazy. NG1 is definitely harder than any of the Mega Man games. NG2 is easy, true, but NG1 is definitely harder. NG3 is also hard.. but for all the wrong reasons.
