More LEGO rumors: No LEGO Harry Potter in 2009, more LEGO Indy likely photo

I know you're probably all reeling from the improbability of this past weekend's rumored LEGO Rock Band title (seriously, WTF?), but there's more LEGO rumors where that came from.

According to Eurogamer, a source close to developer Traveler's Tales has whispered that the rumored LEGO Harry Potter title -- a likely pairing, based off this year's film release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and the licensed LEGO toys -- won't be happening in 2009. Eurogamer speculates that based on information they've heard, a follow up to last year's LEGO Indiana Jones is likely, however.

These are my favorite rumors, the ones where sources claim things that haven't been confirmed aren't happening. I can come up with a few of these as well, so here we go: there will be no Madden/Mutant League Football crossover coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, and Sony isn't considering releasing a portable system that acts as a pedometer and catches fire when you press the "select" button.

But on a serious note, the lack of a LEGO Harry Potter title isn't a huge loss, but the idea of another installment of the LEGO Indiana Jones series is troubling. I respect the folks at Traveler's Tales, and have always enjoyed their games, but I'm not sure we need another game that plays like last year's title with some new LEGO pieces. It's time to branch out a little, guys; surprise us in 2009, OK?

I really enjoyed the lego star wars games, but Indy and Batman seemed chore-ish. I hope they come up with a new type of gameplay for the lego franchise - the costume/character based puzzle and item collect-a-thon has remained mostly unchanged through the different games with the only differences being the franchise skin they apply.

I really think a Lego game based on classic horror movies characters would do well. And by "classic" I mean Freddy, Jason, Ash, Alien, Predetor, and even Hannibal.

But I also think that Wii Speak is genius, so what do I know?

@Jonathan Holmes:

I would so buy that, but this is coming from a guy who has Freddy, Jason, and Leatherface Xmas tree ornaments.

Howabout a LEGO game where you actually build stuff with LEGOs and have them come to life?

You could make whatever movie/tv/comic/game/whatever tribute you wanted to and play to your hearts content. :)

Mutant League Football was one of the only Football games I actually liked back in the day of the Genesis. I also really liked their version of Hockey. Good times.

Yeah, I agree we need more of these games. Shall we petition?
