More Guitar Hero World Tour tracks revealed by OXM

     PlayStation 2

With Guitar Hero World Tour's rumored October release date quickly approaching, that can only mean one thing: we'll soon be cleared of rumored songs for the high-anticipated game. But until Activision and Neversoft decided to come clean, here we go ...

The latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine has revealed a handful of tracks, some of which had previously only been rumored. Songs include Dinosaur Jr's "Feel the Pain," Lost Prophets' "Rooftops," Nirvana's "About a Girl," and The Doors' "Love Me Two Times." The OXM article also reveals some in-game venues, including The House of Blues and Amoeba Records.

As a fan of plastic instrument rock games, my personal anticipation for World Tour and its competitor Rock Band 2 is at an all-time high. But does anyone else find that a lot of the song-overlap between the two games to be a bit curious? If both games have a comparable and strong setlist, what are the features that are going to truly set them apart?

The full list of songs revealed in the OXM article can be found after the jump.

[Thanks, power-glove!]

I'm really bummed that older GH songs won't be compatible with the new one, but most of the people I now will buy GHWT mainly because the drums are much better than RBs and also because of the name (even though is has less focus on the guitar this time around).

I will probably buy this game with the instruments, since I already own the Rock Band's and they are basically they same.

And while both games have similar soundtracks, I think GHWT is better because it has more innovative features, (even though Activision copied Harmonix the idea of the "Full Band Game"). Rock Band is more of the same (which is a good thing), but it is just a pretext to sell a disc with more songs and a psychedelic effect. They might as well put the new songs as DLC. GH has received a lot of criticism recently mainly because many considered GHIII the worst of the franchise, but we all know that this new GH has a lot of potential and the drums look awesome!

Why Rooftops? A Town Called Hypocrisy would have been a much better choice. Also Slide Away > Some Might Say and Whatever Happened to my Rock and Roll > Weapon of Choice

Gynecologist Cobra: Great minds think alike, apparently.

While the Stratocaster looks infinitely cooler, I'm just too used to my GH controllers.

Looks like I'll be getting GH:WT as, just like Australia, we've yet to even sniff Rock Band. I hate you EA...what did South Africa ever do to you?

You smug bastards in the north should...well...keep being smug. :P

Wow, a lot of these songs are already on rock Band 2. And the ones that aren't(linkin park), I don't want to play. So, thank you Activision, you're saving me some money by not offering any original songs!

Well to carry on the rock band vs GH theme that seems to take place in every post about either game ill say this, Im getting both.

Honestly I dont understand why Guitar hero gets so much hate or why Activision is considered to have completely ruined the franchise. I think guitar hero 3 was a respectable entry. It had more songs than any GH game before it, and introduced an online mode (which, granted, could have been a bit more functional). The only real criticism of it is the fact that many of the note charts were needlessly difficult when played on expert mode. I dont consider this criticism to be worthy of rendering the game terrible. Also, is it so hard to believe that activision could take this criticism into consideration and address the problem for future installments?

That song creation mode is cool, but I can only imagine either really shitty note charts or crazy ridiculous charts. Not to mention I bet its really a pain in the ass to make for a 2 min song.

I've always thought that if Harmonix priced all of their DLC for $1 during Guitar Hero: WT's release, they'd sink that ship for good.

Same reason they argue about how much better their console is over all others, because they're stupid. Me, I have both of the old music games and I'll both of the new music games. There will be specific things I like, specific things I don't like, but they'll both be fun.

American Woman? For seriously? Son of a whore. That would have been a cool RB2 exclusive. Aside from Creedence none of those really impress or surprise me. Hotel California disappoints but now that I know they're putting more than one song per band for some bands Life In The Fast Lane may be in there. Oh please, please, please. Still nothing will stop me from buying a music game with Beat It.

As a former stoner turned rich unlimited points guy, I look forward to the Dinosaur Jr. in GH3. I heard somewhere that the whole of Daydream Nation may become available as DLC for RB2, is this correct? My pothead pounds are going for that release then. I don't understand why there would have to be such a problem with track overlap between games: It smacks of laziness as there are thousands of classic guitar songs.
