More Guilty Gear coming to PS3, 360, not dead yet photo

If you're a Guilty Gear fan and are worried that Guilty Gear 2: Overture ruined everything, don't worry! Series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari has assured fans that Arc System Works isn't done with the property yet, and that more games in the fighting series are planned for PS3 and Xbox 360.

"What we can say about Guilty Gear is that it is not dead yet," claims Arc System's Tomo Ohno. Ishiwatari's comments were that he has "full intention to create Guilty Gear for PS3 and 360." That means a proper one too, not the weird hybrid of evil that was Overture

So, good news for all fans of guitar-strumming witches, right?

Perhaps it will be a proper Guilty Gear X3. Considering that X2 is where the current storyline ENDED it would be nice if they could continue the story so we could figure out who Raven and THAT MAN are.

I thought ASW didnt owned the property or they had a problem with Sammy and that's why they made blazblue. It would be good if they start over and try some new things with the guilty gear franchise.

It's strange he says it will be for consoles considering what a strong arcade franchise Guilty Gear is.

I'd be more than happy if they just put Potemkin and Faust into Overture. A new fighter would definitely be best, though. I wonder if he'll actually continue the "dead" story, or if he'll keep going with the new Overture story, since Ishiwatari keeps insisting it's the "real" one.

Never played a single one of those games. Are they any good?

@Demtor: The fighters after Guilty Gear X are all excellent. If you like combo-heavy games at high speeds (The "Gatling" system that games use is kind of like MvC2, but a bit looser in the way you can build combos while also giving you a bit more leeway in execution). Overture is kind of hit or miss, liking it depends largely on how attached you were to the X games and if you like Dynasty Warriors a lot. The original game is complete crap though, and is only worth the novelty if you really like the games and characters.

Also: Isuka is a lot more fun than people give it credit, but sadly broken as all hell. You also need 4 people to really play it properly.

Good stuff, Guilty Gear is a very underrated franchise outside of Japan. Fantastic music and characters, I just wish they'd bloody release BB over here.

Cool, thanks guys. Sounds like I'll have to get my hands on Guilty Gear X or anything beyond that time. Add it to my slowly growing collection of fighting games. From what I can tell the character design is really interesting and 2D is always the better D.

@DustyBlue - No, they've always had the rights to Guilty Gear, although Sammy was their usual publisher until they got bought up by Sega. They just took a break from the series in order to focus on Blazblue - Arc System Works is still a pretty small company, and they didn't want to strain their resources by working on two different fighting game series at the same time.

@ SousedLouse

In an interview with Gamasutra, Daisuke Ishiwatari was asked about the rumors of Arc Systems losing the rights to Guilty Gear. He said something like like "Well, I can't officially say much about those rumors - except that they're basically true." So there was at least some dispute over the rights, though they might have cleared that up if they want to make more games.

Also, they definitely worked on two fighting game series at the same time - BlazBlue and Battle Fantasia. The also worked on a ton of WiiWare shovelware on the side - they're small, but they keep busy.

@Necros - I based my comment off of an interview from IGN with the company president, Minoru Kidooka:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1026689p3.html

Kidooka basically said that the company wanted to focus on Blazblue for at least two years (last year and this year). It's not like they made the game in the space of two years, but now that it's out, they could be trying to focus on it more.

Granted, he could just be covering over the issue by claiming that there isn't enough staff. However, the fact that they've held off on a proper installment of Guilty Gear or Battle Fantasia convinces me that it's true. I don't know about the shovelware, though, although I never thought that shovelware took much work.

How can you improve upon Accent Core Plus? I guess they could improve the graphics and interface. But AC was one of the most balanced fighters...we'll see what this really means. Maybe something solid at E3?

On one hand, I'm completely and utterly burnt out on Guilty Gear. Arc rehashed that shit more than Capcom did Street Fighter II.

On the other, I'm desperate for more 2D fighters. Despite the success of Street Fighter IV, no one new has taken the bait and decided to make their own imitators. So, I'll probably end up buying it regardless.

Just, please... do something new with it.
