If you're a Guilty Gear fan and are worried that Guilty Gear 2: Overture ruined everything, don't worry! Series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari has assured fans that Arc System Works isn't done with the property yet, and that more games in the fighting series are planned for PS3 and Xbox 360.
"What we can say about Guilty Gear is that it is not dead yet," claims Arc System's Tomo Ohno. Ishiwatari's comments were that he has "full intention to create Guilty Gear for PS3 and 360." That means a proper one too, not the weird hybrid of evil that was Overture.
So, good news for all fans of guitar-strumming witches, right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I think I'm a Guilty Gear fan. Time to Gamefly that shit and get educated.
Also: Isuka is a lot more fun than people give it credit, but sadly broken as all hell. You also need 4 people to really play it properly.
What Gen said. Guilty Gear X on, the games are absolutely excellent.
Dibs on Dizzy.
The best fighting game franchise every. Along with the Street Fighter Series.
Life is good.
... But how? Didn't they lose the IP rights or something?
In an interview with Gamasutra, Daisuke Ishiwatari was asked about the rumors of Arc Systems losing the rights to Guilty Gear. He said something like like "Well, I can't officially say much about those rumors - except that they're basically true." So there was at least some dispute over the rights, though they might have cleared that up if they want to make more games.
Also, they definitely worked on two fighting game series at the same time - BlazBlue and Battle Fantasia. The also worked on a ton of WiiWare shovelware on the side - they're small, but they keep busy.

Kidooka basically said that the company wanted to focus on Blazblue for at least two years (last year and this year). It's not like they made the game in the space of two years, but now that it's out, they could be trying to focus on it more.
Granted, he could just be covering over the issue by claiming that there isn't enough staff. However, the fact that they've held off on a proper installment of Guilty Gear or Battle Fantasia convinces me that it's true. I don't know about the shovelware, though, although I never thought that shovelware took much work.
Nice.
I say, DO IT ASW. DO IT NOW.
For those who don't know, get learned, son!
On the other, I'm desperate for more 2D fighters. Despite the success of Street Fighter IV, no one new has taken the bait and decided to make their own imitators. So, I'll probably end up buying it regardless.
Just, please... do something new with it.
