Quantcast

Yesterday Joystiq spotted a Slashdot article on Retroboy that analyzed games that shaped the Dreamcast. Nobody makes a perfect list. Hell, we're sure to give you plenty of shitty ones in the near future.I wanted to add one more significant launch title that I think a lot of people have forgotten (you bastards): Ready 2 Rumble!

The smack-talkin' wiry AFRO-THUNDER was the showpiece game for the Dreamcast launch, nobody had ever seen a boxing game move that fluidly and for the first time we were seeing natural 3d facial expressions on a console. Even the hired voice of the announcer was a really big deal. Afro was also the signature fella of those early commercials. The game itself wasn't all that great and its sequel tanked, but it was succesful in turning a lot of heads and getting people to the stores.

Despite that the commercial industry has said about it, the Dreamcast was a truly bad-ass console and I'm sure there are many of us who still use it as a multi console emulator play it today. Here's what they have on their list:
  • Soul Calibur
  • Shenmue
  • Jet Grind Radio
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Virtua Tennis & Tennis 2K2
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Power Stone & Power Stone 2
  • Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2
  • Full Review of Sonic Adventure 2
  • Samba De Amigo
  • Virtua Fighter 3TB
  • Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future
  • Chu Chu Rocket!
  • Phantasy Star Online
  • Street Fighter 3:Third Strike and other Fighters
  • Ikaruga
Found another hole in the bucket?
Tell them what else they missed here. (cough Tokyo Xtreme cough)

When I first got that game, I played it for 45 hours NONSTOP. Seriously. Not just no sleep, but no eating either. The game had me that good.
