We already know that Fire Emblem 3DS will be ushering Nintendo into the paid DLC world, but it looks like we're about to get a bit more information on the latest series entry. It seems as if the upcoming 3DS iteration of Fire Emblem will bring back a free-roaming map system, which will allow you to venture the countryside in search of gear, and potentially quests.
In addition to free-roaming, there are a number of other details emerging such as attack bonuses for adjacent characters (similar to the Disgaea series, or Jeanne D'Arc), and custom character creation for direct story related purposes.
I don't think I've ever been more excited for a Fire Emblem game than I am now. Is anyone else looking forward to the new entry?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
"custom unit creation" I feel it will either be terrible or amazing. I can't really see a middle ground for this.
Combat-wise, that was only in Seisen no Keifu, and it only applied to certain units and only added a critical bonus. This seems to work with all characters in the 3DS game. Radiant Dawn also had something similar with the bond system, but it wasn't combat location based.
From what I've heard, the unit creation mechanic actually lets you create a male or female unit from various bits and pieces -- you apparently are the second main character in the game, next to Prince Crom. So it's amazing :D
Ah, so you have to have little bits of humans to create humans. Fair game. I do like the idea of more than one main character. It worked fantastically in FE7, and I hope it works well here too.
Also, what quotes? Learn what words mean before you throw them about like a know-it-all - or at least figure out if you meant "credit" or "quote" before you get your panties in a wad that someone didn't do things the way you wanted them to be done.
At the very least he credited NL, which credits andriasang.com. The circle of life is maintained and all is well.
I'm just learning about Fire Emblem for 3DS. I think it is the best SRPG ever (starting from Gamecube to Wii).
These new options are gonna make me buy a 3DS just for this game. DAMN YOU NINTENDO!
I win, credit given.
All the characters that had high relations in past FE games would give stat boosts within a certain radius depending on the relationship level.
As for allies aiding in actual attacks, if you surround a unit with 3 pegasus knights in most entries you get an instant critical hit along with an animation of all three characters attacking the target.
This game looks awesome. Hurry and release it here, Nintendo! ^.^
That one is still my favorite, and I think it had the best characters and story.
I always meant to source andria, but I sourced Nintendo Life because it's where I found it.
We both win!
but this looks superb
Advance Wars at least lets units be expendables.
As long as they pretend Days of Ruin didn't happen.
@viewtifulmom
Umm.. Welcome to the world of internet journalism? Plenty of news you see here and elsewhere every day is from a source of a source.
I believe you credit where you found it, and not spend far too much time tracing it back all the way quadruple checking the info given in the article you're quoting. If the place you found it gets info wrong then its their fault and people can default back to the original as an insurance plan, which keeps you from looking dumb.
Either way, this isn't a new practice, Chris didn't do anything wrong, dumb or out of the ordinary here.
No, actually, adjacent units getting bonuses is something that's been in the series in some form in every game since FE4.
Also, the ability to create your own character who fills the role of deuteragonist is something that was introduced in FE12, which didn't come out in the US.
@Roninlife I don't get it, your favorite FE game its the first one to come overseas (the 7th)? or is the "sequel" that never went outside japan(the 6th)?
Some people don't mind playing games in Japanese and have imported 3DS' and can just import the games that look good to them.
Yeah, I suppose. Just sucks we can't trust Nintendo to just localize it :C
