More details on the Wii Speak Channel

More details on the Wii Speak Channel photo

Fresh from the Nintendo Media Summit comes news of a new Wii Speak Channel. This channel will pop up on your Wii on November 16th, and lets you use that handy Wii Speak device we told you about at E3 earlier this year. Don't have Wii Speak? Get one for $29.99.

The channel lets you speak (or as Destructoid contributor Jonathan Ross suggests, fart) with up to three others that you've traded Friend Codes with online at no cost. Your Mii will appear on screen (of course) and mimic your chat. Think of it as a conference call app with all the seriousness sucked out.

You can also used Wii Speak to leave messages (kind of like Xbox Live) or narrate captions for your photos. Or fart.

Will you use this channel? I think it could be kind of cool if you used it as a musical jam session facilitator.

Is it possible to chat with people while playing, like, any game? If it is, i'll probably buy it eventually, if not, i don't really give a damn.

Don't buy Wii Speak. Wait for a 3rd party headset.

Musical jam session is a good idea. My friends are never on any instant messaging things.

So they'll probably never be on this. Meh.

Incorporate this functionality into your few online games, like how Xbox Live lets you force chats with your friends even when the game doesn't have a chat option by using the Xbox Dash menus, and you've finally done something right with voice chat, Nintendo.

No need, really.

Hahahahaha, pay 30 bucks and you have to use some stupid channel, 4 person chats seems so silly in the face of MS allowing for 6 person chat when the next update comes out.

Something so basic and Nintendo can't even do that right.

There is so much potential here, but I doubt it's going to be used the way "we" want it.

I like the idea of doing a jam session, but I wonder how well that work.

Kyousuke Nanbu, Sarcasm right??? Like satire? Mocking the people irrational haters? hopefully...

30 bucks is average for a headset, I wonder if you'll get notifications? I'm assuming right...Wouldn't make sense if you had to call somebody up to tell them to get onto the Wiispeak channel...

I wonder if there will be ingame invites and what not. I'm really not fond of pop ups while I play.
