More details on Persona 3 PSP emerge photo

Don't ask me why I'm so excited about the news that Persona 3 is coming to the PSP. I already own both editions of the game (the original and FES) and was actually im the middle of a FES replay when this news hit. You know what though? I'm going to play it all over again, because the time spent playing Persona 3 is worth it.

Siliconera reports that you can choose at the beginning of the game to play as the original male protagonist or the new female, and that it is based on The Journey portion of FES (in other words, the updates made to that release will be included). Choosing the female protagonist will result in different events and meetings with new characters, such as the male equivalent of the Velvet Room's Elizabeth.

The game will also have five difficulty levels in total and will get a simultaneous retail and digital release (for PSPGo users) when it comes out in Japan on November 1st. I wonder when we'll see it in America? I have to admit, that new Velvet Room attendant is awfully handsome ... yum.

@ZenGaijin: Considering that's it's Persona 3, you may as well just buy his PSP off him.

There's absolutely no chance that I'm not getting this.

Wow, I really said that in the most roundabout way possible, didn't I...?

I have the FES version, though I never got very far with it. I enjoyed it, I could just never find the time to sit down with it. I'll be getting this though for sure- should be perfect for the long trips to work every day.

Can't wait for more P3. I'll wait for Atlus USA to give the word to localize and it'll be day one. P3 on the go sweet.

I never owned a PS2, and I have no interest in getting one. I tried a PS2 emulator for PC and ran into some problems with Persona 4 about 3 hours into the game.

I am very very interested in P3 for PSP.

I'm not exactly hearing much to make me want to pick this up (and in turn, a PSP). As much as I love Persona, playing as a female protagonist with minor changes isn't enough to warrant re-purchasing half of FES.

They could release this every other year with minimal changes and I would still buy it. Persona 3 on the go is just too good to pass up.

Now if Atlus would do the same for Devil Summoner 2 I would be in heaven.

And now I'll finally be able to finish P3.

Not to be snarky but... which person in that picture is the girl?

@muddBstrd -- That is a really girly looking illustration of the old protagonist, I agree. The girl is the one on the right.

I just realized if the dating for the new female is reversed as I think it might be....maybe I can date Akihiko. WOO!

We'll see it in Q1 2010 or early Q2. Persona 4 came out fast enough. I think I'll play through the male MC's story first, to see the changes from FES. Then New Game+ as the female.

I'd rather... they just make new Personas than release Persona 3 with new content... again.

God I cannot wait until Persona 5 finally gets announced and shown off.

Playing P3 without Elizabeth wouldn't be any fun so I guess that rules out a female playthrough... unless you can date Mitsuru as a female.

so, who will the female protagonist be able to date? Junpei, Akihiko, Kazushi, Kenji, and...Ken?? Koromaru???

I was kinda hoping for an entirely new game in the P3 universe, but oh well. This is pretty sweet, too bad i don't own a psp. I wonder how it stacks up against the ps2 & if they've fixed it. It'd be cool if it had the menus/systems from P4

So, if you're playing as a female, you get to date all the losers. Except for Akihiko, but he's the only studmuffin in the game, really.

Makes me wish I owned a PSP :[

I really loved P3 and the FES add-on, but I just feel like this is milking the cash-cow now a bit. Especially when FES was supposed to be the complete version.

It also says that the male version of the game is going to be given new uniuqe content as well. Hmmm...

I was actually considering selling my beloved PSP (times is rough, my chilluns), but between the Persona remake and this, I can't find the courage to part with it just yet...
I would totally date Akihiko. And I'm a straight guy. He's just that awesome...even if his first Persona does look like a bad 80s ass rock guitarist with the shingles.

@laika one

Technically all the Persona games take place in the same universe.

P3P's campaign with the male character won't be exactly the same, either, because new events will be added to that line.

The big question is really as to the fate of the FES content. What does this say for the current canon as shown in the followup campaign?

@unangbangkay

sorry, I worded that wrong, I meant setting instead of universe, like a direct sequel with returning characters instead of the same story.

You know, if I was a girl, I would still have the hots for Elizabeth.

She's intelligent, sexy, sassy, rich beyond belief and has an excellent fashion style.

I'm not sure why you'd need a male counterpart, Elizabeth is just... perfect!

Yeah, Elizabeth is tops. I'm playing through Persona 4 right now and I can't even remember Igor's attendant's name. I want Elizabeth back. I want to show her around the school again and have her ask stupid questions that make me laugh.
I miss her so much.

Perfect timing. Right after I finished the game, I find out that I have NOT "finished" the game.

At least I'll have something to play on my PSP.

It actually makes me a little tiny bit sick to know there are people willing to buy this game a third time. Yeah, P3 was great, but how many copies do we need on the market exactly? How about putting the time and money into, you know, something actually new? I can't get behind this at all.

Being that I've never played any of the Persona series, does anyone who has think this will be a better place to start than the original remake?

@Gen Eric

I have FES, but I love this game so much that if a significant amount of changes are made, I don't think I'd stop supporting the same game. It's that good.

Eh, I have other problems with this version of the game as well. I think this particular problem just has to do with my aversion to paying money for the same product multiple times. Two times is my max; I did it for FF4, Breath of Fire 2, Nocturne, P3, Yggdra Union, and Devil Summoner 2, and I don't plan to do it again any time soon.

I've changed my mind a little on the game... it might be worth buying for the different interactions between the female and male members of the social links... I mean, this time the boys are dating the female protagonist, so new possibilities in story there....

Time for a genderswap (I was thrown by the ending comment, but then saw who posted this). Maybe The Answer will be DLC? Anyway, I'm in a similar boat (have both, though I got FES first and am only partway through a first play), and then this gets dropped on us. IIRC, I've run into few grammar, if even spelling, errors in FES, so the script could very easily just be lifted in P3P. Hm... would there still be VA work?
