More Aliens: Colonial Marines details to drool over photo

In an interview with CVG, Aliens: Colonial Marines producer Mike Gallo has let some new details spring forth like a freshly born facehugger.

Colonial Marines will be slotted neatly into the movie franchise's time line, placed directly after Alien 3. Rather than exist in its own story bubble, the game almost seeks to be a sequel to the last two films in the franchise. The last two films being Alien 3 and Aliens ... there was no Resurrection.

Gallo states that Gearbox's aim is to "answer some of the questions from those two movies and [pick] up the story right after the marines were wiped out on LV-426." You will take on the role of a variety of marines as these questions are answered, and four player co-op is of course present.

Gearbox is drawing heavily from the movies, and shall attempt to create a never-before-seen air of authenticity. Syd Mead, who worked on the vehicle design in Aliens, will be on board to re conceptualize his old art, while the studio plans to recreate the same film grain and lighting as the iconic sci-fi sequel. If Gearbox can truly pull off the feeling of being in Aliens, I may possibly sh*t myself.

Of course, the biggest news of all is that the team is working as hard as possible to get the xenomorph drool looking perfect. "We have guys in lab suits in a bunker somewhere testing the viscosity of every liquid under the sun so we can match it with an in-game shader to get the alien drool effect just right.," Gallo states.

Sexy.

I liked Alien Resurrection but I can see how it screwed up a good story. They completely ignored the fact that nobody ever found the Aliens home planet and just treated them as extinct when that just isn't so.

I also thought Steve Perry's first two ALIENS books were good while the 3rd one (finale) kinda sucked.

I demand the same sound effects from Aliens. EVERYTHING!!!

And for the record, Alien Resurrection was a failed apology for Alien 3. :/

Ever since I saw some stuff about this game in Game Informer a month or so ago I am totally on board. I can only hope that the game lives up to the promises.

Also, I think it's worth noting that just about every FPS rips off ALIENS in some way. I think It's a good time to make a ALIENS game.

Another note: I still want a Aliens vs Predator 3 game.

AvP3 would be awesome (game, not movie), and I want this game. I don't have a computer that can run it (it is for PC, right? Hopefully), but it'd be something to work towards.

They've chosen a good point in the film time line to set this game, but I just hope to god they give the bloody comics some love.

The Aliens comics tell a hell of a lot more about the whole Aliens universe, how Predators hunt them, what their royal jelly can do, robot Aliens built to infiltrate Aliens hives, the Earth War, there's just so much many don't know, because of clinging to the films limited timeline alone. I pray they use some of what really out there.

All looking good, I just hope we get to use the dropships and APCs properly.

i'm still waiting for a game based on Hive. the mechanics based around that comic could be outstanding. wall crawling, vision upgrades, modular weapons, brain biting, social and proper stealth, all wrapped up in a lovable android xenomorph parcel! imagine infiltrating hives on multiple worlds AS an alien, but with the intent of stealing from the queen. All the while you would be fighting off corporate marines that are trying to kidnap and reverse engineer you.

Between this and Ghostbusters, could it be that movie games are finally doing it for themselves, so to speak? You go, movie licenses!

Wow, awesome. Sounds like they are reallying taking the time to get the details right. This is good news as games in the past with the franchise seemed kind of "cash cow"-ish if you will.

I liked Alien Resurrection, Ill admit that the idea of them cloning Ripley was a little farfetched, but whatever I think the story fits within the series.

Come on! Ron Pearlman was a friggin bad ass in that movie! And Ron Pearlman is NEVER in a bad movie.

Aliens is hands-down my favorite movie of all time and everything i hear about this game makes my pants shrink. i LOVE that Gearbox is going to great lengths to make the game as true to the movie as possible and i can't effing wait to get dragged into a vent shaft by an alien that i didn't even know was there.

is there a proposed release date yet?
