Monster Hunter Tri: Free online, WiiSpeak, demo & date! photo

Monster Hunter Tri is coming to Wii this year, and Nintendo has dropped some fresh details about the Capcom-published dinosaur massacre sim. The game will be coming with FREE online play in North America, eschewing the subscription fees that currently afflict the Japanese version of the game. You won't have to pay to steal eggs with your friends. Result!

The game will be compatible with WiiSpeak, and there will also be a demo coming. The demo won't will only be obtainable from GameStop however, on an exclusive disc that the US retailer will be offering from March 8. If you never want to step foot inside a GameStop, don't worry. The full game, with a Classic Controller bundle, will be released in North America on April 20!

Get ready to slaughter some innocent reptiles!

I'm going to guess GameStop.

YES

Does this mean free online in Europe too?

"won't will" Jim?

And I'm super psyched for this game. Pre-ordered the classic pro bundle. 500 MS pts PLUS a demo and -5$ is amazing.

I'm quite interested in Monster Hunter, but I know it'd be the kind of thing I'd pick up once then barely be able to get into, due to other (gaming) commitments. These announcements make me want to get into this online game world even more, but I guess I'll always be a single player kinda guy; I'd rather have many different experiences, rather than a single huge one.

LOL! Jim must have March on the brain. He keeps putting everything down as coming out in March, when he means April for MH3, and May for Mario.

I'm just all over the Monster Hunter stuff :v

Sucks though, I was hoping the Gamestop posting of April 6th was going to be the release date.

My God @ all the bombs being dropped today by Nintendo and GDC is around the corner. The mind boggles as to what's being announced at E3.

So, do you have to do something ridiculous like preorder to get that demo, or are they giving it out so you can see how the game is?

I've never played a monster hunter, but I'm hyper pumped to give this one a try. Seems like my kind of thing, and its on a console I actually have now. Pre-ordering today after work.

@Necros
I wouldn't doubt they'll want to require a pre-order, but this being news from the Nintendo summit, I doubt they're going into detail of how Gamestop is choosing to distribute it.

Unless Capcom specifically tells them to give it out (Which they should to try and get as many people in on this as possible) I doubt it'll be given out freely.

Finally, a solid release date. I won't have to wait too much longer to play this game with others online, thank god.

GameStop demo disc? Very nicely done, Capcom. They're actually giving their hardcore Wii games a serious push. I like this way of thinking.

monster hunter hasn't ever really been on my must have list, but i'm fine with going to gamestop to get a FREE demo. if you want any cash, the deal's off, and i'll go back to not caring about this title. it's about time we start seeing demo disks again!

If there's free online for Europe too, then hell yes. Otherwise, I'm not buying a game that I have to keep on paying to play.

Love the idea of a demo, but why can't we get something to download off of the Nintendo Channel right to my SD card?

After all, it is 2010 and this technology stuff isn't really space age any more.

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that this or some other Monster Hunter game will eventually hit the PS3 at some point in the future. Frontier's on the 360 in Japan, Tri is on the Wii. What's left? Put a Monster Hunter port on the PS3. Why? Capcom really, really likes money.

Thanks for the update. No denying the fact that I'm a fan of Monster Hunter and the announcement of Free online makes Tri a must get in my book. Can't wait till release and fingers crossed for Monster Hunter Frontier for free on xbox.

Kinda feel bad for the Japanese who have to pay in fairy money, but then again, they do have a better player base.
