Monster Hunter prints money for Capcom photo

I'm never one to show my bias and stain news posts with personal feelings, but Capcom's simply wonderful, isn't it? Great to hear then, that the company's doing so well, as sales of Monster Hunter Freedom 2G have "skyrocketed" in Japan, helping the publisher of Resident Evil and Street Fighter to net in an operating income of JPY 2.97 billion (USD 27.4m) and a net income of JPY 4.04 billion (USD 37.3m). These are rises of 43.5% and 60.1% respectively.

Capcom's PSP monster hunting game has sold 2.4 million copies, because Japanese gamers will buy anything that involves the monsters and the gathering of things. This is due to the fact that they are genetically similar to magpies. Capcom also expects to shift 2.3 million copies of Resident Evil 5, 1.7 million copies of Street Fighter IV, 1.5 million copies of Bionic Commando and half a million copies of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop

Great news for Capcom, probably the most consistent third party out there in terms of quality. May they continues to be financially rewarded for being so.

Yes, may Capcom have great success with those ventures. Except for Monster Hunter III. Yes, I'm still bitter.

Do you dtoiders think it will sell as good on wii?
Or is the handheld aspect important?

They should make a Japanese game based around cutting down colonized koreans and collecting pre-20th century pride. That would probably break sales records in Japan!

This is why im starting to hate japan - ive loved the monster hunter psp series, but im all too aware of the huge, glaring flaws in the gameplay. But Capcom will never put any real effort into improving it, because they can just add in a couple of new, uninspired, annoying and/or boring to fight monsters and some new equipment, and japan will go nuts for it.

But then, its not like this a new problem...

I have never played any of the Monster Hunter games. Are they any good or are they just repetitive loot-fests?

The Monster Hunter games are good--but hard--and work best when played with other people. The problems are unfriendly controls, grind-based gameplay (hunting monsters), and the near-vertical difficulty curve for the wyvern fights (enough that some people actually quit playing at Yian Kut-Ku, the first boss).

I love Capcom. Resident Evil, Mega Man, Street Fighter = total greatness. BTW, where are the assumed Mega Man 9 figures? Do they just have no idea how it will do?

RE5, Mega Man 9, Street Fighter 4, Bionic Commando 2, Capcom, I love you.

Now put some of that money towards Okami and Zack & Wiki sequels. Pronto.

Well there's the nail in Dead Rising for the Wii's coffin.

They only EXPECT to sell 500,000. If they're only shooting for half a mil then I doubt they've put much talent or money behind the project.

Also, RE5 will seel more than 2.3 million. Most definitely.

Since when did dinosaur genocide become trendy? They should make Monster Hunter: Turok edition!

That's one way of looking at it, but I don't think ports really take that much manpower to begin with. I mean.. in comparison to an original game.

Keep in mind that they only sold 1.7 million copies of the original (in two years!), and try to figure out how much more creating the original game cost than a port.. and you get a decent ratio for a remake.

I personally think it will sell more if its a decent port, but we shall see.

Interesting sidenote: it only sold 80,000 copies in Japan. Man, the Xbox is really bombing over there....
