Monster Hunter Frontier: Details on cross-platform play photo

We know that Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Frontier to the Xbox 360 in Japan, but that's about it. What about us? Yeah, still no word on that. But there is some information on cross-platform play for the Japanese gamers that will have access to it.

Famitsu had a chat with Microsoft Japan's Takashi Sensui, Capcom's Kenji Inafune, and Yoshinori Ono for an interview on the upcoming title. It seems that Microsoft is hosting the servers for the Xbox 360 version of the game, which means that players of the PC version will not be able to play with Xbox 360 players.

Inafune for the save: "In the future, we are considering allowing 360 users and PC users to play together."

What they did not talk about is a western release. If Microsoft USA wants to host servers, I'm sure that Capcom would possibly think about bringing it over.

It would be amazing if the people who had the PS3 version could play with the 360/PC people, but of course that won't happen.

so the details of monster hunter Frontier cross-platofrm play is that there is no cross-platform play?

One gets the feeling that the world for the 360 version will be rather barren...

@Tomasz Jaro

This is not an exclusive game.

Has there ever been a cross console online play in a video game before?

@Chronic Logic, I don't think so, at least not off the top of my head. Maybe some obscure thing out there.

I also don't get why their bothering porting a 3+ year old game over to 360. Why not start dev on Monster Hunter Frontier 2?

I would also be VERY surprised if they brought it over here, and Microsoft isn't going to be putting up servers for the US, they get money for Live already, and the American audience isn't going to pay a subscription fee to play Monster Hunter, so they have 0 reason to host their servers for them.

Quake 3 had cross compatability with the PC and the Dreamcast I believe. It's been so long that I'm fuzzy on details though.

@Chronic Logic there was one known as Shadowrun, but that had mixed reviews, and below-average favored user reviews of the game, but this was one of the games that had 360 + PC cross-server gameplay.

If you count it, Final fantasy XI has PC/PS2/PS3/360 cross play.

He asked about cross console play, not cross platform. I doubt we'd ever see two competing consoles support cross console play. That'd be rather strange to see more and more of though, owning console x or y would be more preference than exclusivity and features.

What is the point of not having PC/360 cross-platform play? Microsoft owns the monopoly of PCs in the World, so they won't lose any money.

It's more than likely not a choice of keeping them separate purposefully for any reason other than cost.

Getting the console version to work with the PC version is most likely more costly than just having them separate. Also if Capcom is hosting the PC servers, and Microsoft is hosting the 360 servers, that right there would lead to issues.

You would be insane to step back to this game when Monster Hunter Freedom Unite has made so many awesome advances that drastically improve the game; gameplay and stat balancing, more monsters, armour and weapon improvements, more items, etc. Plus you can take a Felyne on adventures with you.

Frontier is ancient and boring compared to MHFU.
