We know that Capcom is bringing Monster Hunter Frontier to the Xbox 360 in Japan, but that's about it. What about us? Yeah, still no word on that. But there is some information on cross-platform play for the Japanese gamers that will have access to it.
Famitsu had a chat with Microsoft Japan's Takashi Sensui, Capcom's Kenji Inafune, and Yoshinori Ono for an interview on the upcoming title. It seems that Microsoft is hosting the servers for the Xbox 360 version of the game, which means that players of the PC version will not be able to play with Xbox 360 players.
Inafune for the save: "In the future, we are considering allowing 360 users and PC users to play together."
What they did not talk about is a western release. If Microsoft USA wants to host servers, I'm sure that Capcom would possibly think about bringing it over.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
One gets the feeling that the world for the 360 version will be rather barren...
Ah well, the PSP one is still my favorite travel timekiller.
This is not an exclusive game.
I also don't get why their bothering porting a 3+ year old game over to 360. Why not start dev on Monster Hunter Frontier 2?
I would also be VERY surprised if they brought it over here, and Microsoft isn't going to be putting up servers for the US, they get money for Live already, and the American audience isn't going to pay a subscription fee to play Monster Hunter, so they have 0 reason to host their servers for them.
Quake 3 had cross compatability with the PC and the Dreamcast I believe. It's been so long that I'm fuzzy on details though.
@Xelviar
He asked about cross console play, not cross platform. I doubt we'd ever see two competing consoles support cross console play. That'd be rather strange to see more and more of though, owning console x or y would be more preference than exclusivity and features.
It's more than likely not a choice of keeping them separate purposefully for any reason other than cost.
Getting the console version to work with the PC version is most likely more costly than just having them separate. Also if Capcom is hosting the PC servers, and Microsoft is hosting the 360 servers, that right there would lead to issues.
Frontier is ancient and boring compared to MHFU.
