Capcom and Microsoft had been teasing a new game in Japan, and that game has finally been revealed. Whether or not it's "new" is up for debate, however. Monster Hunter Frontier Online is a PC version of the hugely successful animal-cruelty franchise, and it's coming to the Xbox 360.
Frontier will mark the first time a Monster Hunter game has appeared on the Xbox 360. Strange that it's taken so long, but there you are. So far, Frontier Online is confirmed for Japan only, with Capcom remaining tight-lipped about a Western version. Hopefully it'll come to the land of we round-eyed devils as well.
I doubt Frontier Online will encourage Japanese players to get more excited about the 360 than they have been, but if any franchise has a chance to sell more boxes, it'll be this one.

Fuck. You. Capcom.
Can a guy get proper Monster Hunter title this generation on a Sony console that ISNT a PSP? I mean...damn..wtf...*grumble grumble*
Fucking pissed off.
I mean, in Japan it's all about the PS3 and it's all about MH, why the fuck would you put out an undoubtedly popular game on an unpopular console????
Surely the popular-in-Japan MH series would benefit greatly from a game on the popular-in-japan console, the PS3? Right?
Re-considering my monster Hunter Tri purchase now.
I couldn't have expressed my disappointment any better.
It's like a fighting game crossed with an RPG crossed with a hunting/stalking game.
To the naked eye a gameplay vid looks like a little person bashing a big monster over and over, but when actually playing it you find that tactic will get you killed by the very first monster very quickly.
It takes fighting strategy, equipment strategy, item use strategy, preperation and downright learned-by-experience skillz.
If you have access to a PSP grab one of the old one's cheap and you'll see what i mean.
I'm at 1000+ hours across the last 3 PSP games. Never have I played such a timesink of a game series.
I wonder when/if this will come out in the West, and whether or not it will be free to play like Tri reportedly will be...if not, that's kind of a dealbreaker for me.
Also, kind of hypocritical of you guys to hate Monster Hunter Frontier for the 360 even though the past Monster Hunter series have been featured on Sony consoles.
I swim (naked) in those deeeeeeeeeelocious tears and smile towards the heavens.
@ Turtlehermit
Yes, this games are a ton of fun if you can grasp the controls. Some people just stop playing after a couple of minutes because it is "to hard", but I have been playing since the first Monster Hunter Freedom on the PSP and it must be one of the games I have more hours of play. If you have a PSP, or a Wii, I say give it a shot, even if it means playing alone (thats the way I play most of the times anyway).
Hope they improve before they unleash this beast.
Relax, coming to the 360 and exclusive too the 360 are two entirely different things.
The ps3 version will probably be annouced soon, you know considering the 360 is at the bottom of the sales barrel as far as japan is concerned.
I understand that you bought a PS3 with a certain future game library in mind, but it may be time to give up the stone.
Riiiight..a PS3 version will come out from a 2007 MMO with improved features?
This isn't Bamco.
/sarcasm'd
The game looks lame though with dated graphic, etc.
I can understand this though, and I do think we'll get it in the west. Monster Hunter had a brief incursion on PS2 in the west, but that was way before the online likes of Live was around. I can see this going down well on Live, with voice chat and headsets as standard, just like how Left 4 Dead did.
Actually, that probably exactly why Capcom did this. Left 4 Dead relies heavily on its co-op design and working as a team. Left 4 Dead even went down well in Japan on 360. Monster Hunter works on the same co-op principle, and is successful in japan on PSP, because they have better ad hoc/wi-fi infrastucture, to play such a game. Xbox Live is the next best thing to that, and the development should be easy and potentially cheaper too, as Capcom know the 360 well enough now.
Don't cryin and a bitchin, Sony fans. Monster Hunter has been on PS2 and PSP for years now. While I know you'd like a PS3 version, that would be more costly. I expect if this 360 version goes down as well as the Wii/PSP versions, Capcom may look at a PS3 version later on. If not, 360's are cheap enough now, go and bag one.
Monster Hunter Freedom I got for my PSP ages ago, and its a cool game, but I'm sure is much more fun in co-op. Due to the low ad-hoc stuff outside of japan, and no headset, I never tried into online on PSP.
Now, if Capcom could redesign Resident Evil Outbreak, to work the same way on Xbox Live, with sweet online play, I'd be a happier Capcom fan.
The game will flop on the 360 and eventually after some time when the timed exclusive contract expires Capcom will release it on ps3 too.But really who cares?
If you compare it to the PSP sales: Tri sold ONE million. Freedom Unite sold 3.7 million in Japan. Also both Super Mario Galaxy and NSMBW sold more than Tri in Japan, so your argument of Tri being the second most successful game on a home console is wrong.
There was also a shot of Monster Hunter 4 for the PS3 off 2chan. Anyone confirm this yet or is everyone too busy still sucking off the 360?
also I'll be more than happy to try the demo as I've never played a MH game.
The best thing that will come of this, is japanese gamers will hopefully come out of their shell and use voice chat to help their MH play.
I hope Tri sells a shit ton over here because I want to play in a team so badly. It gets lonely out here :( Also, portable systems blow. When you're out, why aren't you out? The outside world is a marvel to behold, with so much going on. Maybe if your journey to work/school consists of a 6 hour train journey it would be understandable. The adults get it too. You never see them playing their DSes out over here, they play them at home. It's a real shame there are some great games on portables.
I lul'd. These console wars are getting intense. Sony lines up a year of excellent exclusives and MS steals games from Sony. Damn.
In reality, no one is stealing anything: Capcom is exercising its independent business judgment.
There is much more customization with weapons and armor as well. You can lengthen or shorten your weapons' reach to either improve their range or boost their attack power. There's new and unique monsters, with names I can't quite remember, on top of all the monsters from the prior games, console and for the PSP. Including thorn wyvern Espinas. Holy crap, you can wail on the thing for like a minute with your weapons before it actually considers you more than just a nuisance and decides it'd be nice if you just go away and die.
This coming out for the 360 is a good sign, though. Capcom is hellbent on making this game successful outside of Japan, so it being for the 360 very likely means it will be released outside of Japan, one way or another.
And the next time someone reports this game, they should use a picture of a Rajang for the header image.
