Monster Hunter Freedom Unite gets its first free DLC update photo
  share: Twitter Facebook Reddit Digg
filed under: #DLC

Monster Hunter is kind of big deal. Maybe not as big a deal in America as it is in Japan, but a big deal nonetheless.

Capcom is trying to make it a bigger deal to those of ya’ll who haven’t recognized, recently releasing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PlayStation Portable. Now, its supporting it with downloadable content for the game, releasing every Friday during the upcoming months.

The first bit of DLC is a brand new question, “Triumvirate of Sands.” This new mission throws three monsters at you in the desert -- Daimyo Hermitaur, Tigrex, and Plesioth. Hell, you don’t need to be able to pronounce their names to kill ‘em and then carve ‘em, do you?

The DLC is totally free -- just boot up your game, click on “Downloads,” and the rest is self-explanatory. We’d think. Unless you’re slow. Then we wouldn’t recommend dragging yourself out into the desert to fight monsters. It sounds dangerous.

Here's a treat for all the peeps that want the new game... FREE! No it's not spam or a porn site, just a bit of promotion from capcom.

Don't worry i'm with you whormongr.
I have tried numerous times to get into this game and I just can't.
It really isn't for me. Doesnt help that for all the games they just kind of throw you in there.
Would it kill them to make a little tutorial campaign for the new players?
And once they beat it move up to the regular campaign mode.

There actually is a tutorial campaign... no? I started playing this a few days ago and I'm doing all of these tutorial missions. Maybe you can skip them and you did, Jawmuncher? I'm not sure if this game will be my thing, but I'm definitely giving it a go. I took out some mammoths who were just chilling and then carved 'em up; that was entertaining, at least.

did the game ask you if you were new to MH when you made your guy? the other MH games always have and saying no skips all of the tutorial missions. I have the original and MH Freedom2 and they've both asked if I was new. Start up a new game and say yes to get the tutorial stuff. it REALLY helps.

People who can't get into Monster Hunter might like a new one from Namco Bandai, called God Eater. It looks like a mashup of MH and a Shin Megami Tensei title. The lovely and talented Siliconera have the goods on it - http://www.siliconera.com/2009/07/02/god-eater-preys-on-monster-hunter-with-a-slick-trailer/ . Sorry for the plug, btw. I'm just throwing it out there for folks who are having a bad time with MH.

Im playing it right now and it has vast improvements from the original Monster Hunter PSP game with faster, snappy load times. This is definitely great for people who want something like a portable action grindy, loot-whore MMO just without the other people.

I played a tiny bit of MHF2 a long while ago but I didn't even get to the monster hunting part before...something.

I really should go back and give the game a decent chance.

I wish some of the missions didn't have a requirement of rank 4 or higher so I could actually play them. Or maybe I just need to quit sucking and get to rank 4.

Also Tigrex can suck it. Sonovabitch has killed me more times than any other monster I've faced.

Gah you gutless nerds!

There's FULL, HUGE TUTORIAL CAMPAIGN. It explains how to do just about EVERYTHING IN THE FUCKING GAME.

Just because you have to read a few pages of text doesn't mean it's bad.

Yeah, you guys need to give it a proper chance. This game is more about you learning to play it than any other game I've ever played, you've got to learn how to fight each monster. if one hits you, watch the monster, learn it's "tells" and avoid it's attacks, THEN look for openings to get your own shots in, but don't get greedy.

It's more of a fighting game than an RPG, none of the "spam attacks and heal when your health drops" shit. It's the hardest game evar for newbies, but the most satisfying once you've hit that "EUREKA" moment when you've figured a Monster out.

I love Monster Hunter, been playing for years, put probably over 1000 hours in over the 3 PSP games and still playing daily.

if you've got a PS3 too, hit up the Japanese store for Ad-Hoc party - it's a totally different game when it's 4 hunters on 1 monster!

HR9, rocking the world of any monster in my path. If you've got ad-hoc party, add me as a friend and I'll help you kill whatever you need to kill! "Foolishbean69"

Back to hunting...
