I played one of these games, didn't really get into it. Loved the first Phantasy Star portable though.
Boring as hell but inexplicably popular like dynasty warriors WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP BUYING THOSE BLEEDIN GAMES!!!!!!????
Don't you have the names switched? Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is the Japanese version and Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will be the name in the west.
I loved the mob hunt quests in FFXII, so would I like this? Maybe they seemed so special then because they were such an added bonus to everything else that was going on. I wonder how a whole game can center around this and still be engaging. Millions of people seem to think it is though, so that is worth considering.
This game simply rocks, MH series are not easy games that you ll complete in 8 hours and, after,you will trash them, some monsters are really difficult, and the gathering, farming and planning sometimes you take makes myself to call it "Single player=WOW".
The funniest part of the game is playing cooperatively and that is his secret in Japan, people gather and play the game 4=player coop, outside Japan the game has never and never will reach the critical mass necessary to allow people to play it coop frecuently, and that's why it will never sell so well.

Never understood the appear of these games, there's grindy and then there's this, its just boring as all hell.
@Kyousuke Nanbu: These games would "appear" to the type of people who liked the boss battles in Demon Souls; people who like: Tackling huge monsters, recognizing complex patterns, and being rewarded for quick reflexes and proper preparation. Though the larger battles require a lot of preparation which can be grindy. MH is a good series but by no means meant for everyone.

I was exactly the same before I picked up the game on Wii, but I guess if anything Insanity-0o just stated appeals to you as it does me then give it a go. I may just buy a PSP for the next release actually, can get one cheap now.

I bought tri a few months ago..and haven't started it yet...I have a feeling in going to be thoroughly engrossed once I start and I'd rather finish new vegas before I get sucked into the monster hunter world...I can't remember the last time I was so excited to dive into a new video game franchise...
I loved Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, I got a wii for the sole purpose of Tri, and I'm sure as hell going to love the hell out of some MHF3 whenever that comes out. All I want is a Stateside release date capcom!
I loves it me and my friends get together every weekend and hunt on the psp MHFU! We can't wait for this one
Not that I have a beef with Monster Hunter, but I really disliked the PSP version. How the hell did this beast sell so much?
Man, getting together with a group of friends and playing some monster hunter is awesome. Ever have an 8 person monster hunter get together with pizza and two monster hunter parties going at once? It's awesome. I can't wait for this.
Eh. I'm happy for Capcom, getting these kinds of sales and all. But I don't think this game would be for me. The series is a grind fest apparently and I had just about enough of that from pokemon but then the Japanese like grind because they think you need to work in your games too.
HUGE FAN OF MONSTER HUNTER SERIES! How exciting! Challenging, exciting, and awesome monsters! I never really felt like I was grinding.
I do prefer the console versions though. I can manage the whole crab hand thing but it's not comfortable, darn it!

The nice thing about Monster Hunter, is unlike Diablo and its legion of other clones - you get the weapons you want, you just have to work for them instead of relying on fucking random drops. Everyone gets to loot the same monster parts and much of them go toward different things.

'Grind' in the negative sense refers to unnecessary and tedious repetition (Ie: I just killed this boar. I already understand how to kill it. I've accomplished this. Why do you want me to do it 100 more times just to complete the damn quest/item/whatever?) Dunno if that exists in MH, but generally it is nothing more than padding that only serves to artificially stretch out the games length.
Does this one finally have online infrastructure support (or whatever they call it? I got really into monster hunter freedom, but it sucked having no one to play it with.
