Monkey Island: Special Edition may hit another platform photo

Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is slated to hit Xbox LIVE and PC (via digital download) this summer. But don’t hold us to that: it seems that one lucky platform is getting LucasArts’ sloppy thirds. Speaking with The Guardian about the choice to bring the title to LIVE instead of PlayStation Network or Wiiware, the producer teased the announcement of yet another platform for the remake.

“Well, we never said we wouldn't be on Wiiware or PSN now did we,” Derrick asked. “The truth is, though, Xbox LIVE offers a great user experience and downloadable service to gamers and we think it's a great platform to launch the game on. And, of course, the game will also be available on PC via digital download, plus we may have another platform announcement to make very, very soon.”

Time to speculate: What platform will Special Edition be announced for -- App Store, handheld or another console’s digital download service? We know LucasArts tried to bring a classic remake or two to Apple’s mobile platform before, so the move wouldn’t come as a surprise. Then again, Special Edition isn’t exactly a port of a classic title -- it has a new assets and (probably) a beefy file size. Yeah, we're running in circles. What platform are you guys feeling?

It would make sense to put it on Wiiware, seeing as that's where the new series is going. That would help me get both games without the need for a PC.

i'd have to say the PSN is next. Really the the market of those who bought a wii probably
a) play too many casual games to figure out the puzzles in Monkey Island Games
or
b) are too young to know what the hell this series is. and with a beefy size file my prediction leads me to the PSN side even more.

I think PSN as well since wii is already getting the episodic monkey island.

and I agree with the whole file size would be to big.

But man wouldnt it be cool if they released this as some kind of PSN/PSP game hybrid?

That would be really cool.

Basically works like the PS1 titles.

Makes sense to go Multiplatform.

Not that I care anyway since selling both my Wii & PS3 due to crappy online services

Makes sense to go Multiplatform.

Good thing since I'm selling both my Wii and 360 due to crappy games and hardware

@ Steel

Not that you'd know it. Aside from a decent selection of VC titles the entire experience could be encapsulated by my 10 minute wait for an online game on SSBB followed by the most horrendous lag known to man.

360 Hardware sucks (im on my 4th) but it has by far the best online service. PSN was like a graveyard and don't even get me started on Home.

I had a wii once. It was like buying drugs and waiting for a trip that never came. But seriously I wouldn't get rid of a $400 console just because of online. That's extremely nit picky man. Yes home sucks but Killzone 2, COD4, COD WAW, Sacred 2, MGO, SCIV, and many more games have great online capabilities. What games are you playing where is it a "graveyard?"

I meant more like the experience as a whole. When I turn on my 360 I feel instantly connected to the community. Don't get me wrong the games I played online were well populated and some I enjoyed immensley (Warhawk in particular), they just lacked the fluidity that Xbox Live offers. Also all my friends have the 360 so any multiplatform games that were released I always ended up with the 360 version.

Maybe i'll pick up another PS3 in time when they upgrade the online functions and God Of War 3 and the new Team Ico game hit but I can honestly say I don't miss PSN at all. Its a shame really as the PS3 is a 100x better piece of hardware than the 360.

You do know that theres the tales of monkey island games coming out for wiiware?
Also strongbad series, Zack and Wiki, Another Code R, Sam and Max, Broken Sword shows there is an audiance for these games on the wii.

But yeah I think PSN will be next, filesize was probably too big for wiiware.

Possible Translation: We have a deal with Microsoft for timed exclusivity; that's why we're part of the Summer of Arcade promotion.

Other Possible Translation: It's easier to get the two DirectX versions done and dusted and making money before expanding onto the less compatible platforms.

Again, if you want this on other platforms, go buy Sam and Max Save the World XBLA and Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures Episode 1 XBLA. Otherwise, TellTale will most likely go back to releasing their future titles on PC.
