Monkey Island: SE and Madballs in ...Babo available today photo

Avast! Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and Madballs in ...Babo: Invasion are currently available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for 800 Microsoft Banana Dollars.

Secret of Monkey Island: SE is a faithful remake of the Lucasfilms Games release. It features a sharp new visual style and minor atmospheric tweaks. If Guybrush Threepwood’s updated mullet bothers you for whatever reason, don’t stress: you can flip the new art on and off with a press of the button at any time during play.

Madballs in ...Babo: Invasion
is described as a “casually hardcore” dual-stick shooter starring the viciously equipped and rotund Madballs. You’ll need to see bad boy in action in order to get the best impression, so do check out these teasers we posted shortly after our full preview.

Talk about a busy day with downloadables. What game (or games) are you guys going to jump on today?

@slayer the player

I've been playing MI and its ilk on a PC since it came out. I'm planning on enjoying the new backgrounds on my big TV while sitting back on my couch. That so wrong?

I may get it on Steam some time.

Downloading the trials now.... Monkey Island looks fun, but I mostly get Arcade titles for mindless multiplayer

Day off today so I'm half way through Monkey Island: SE. The new animations and some character designs I could take or leave but the updated audio and backgrounds are really quite nice. Is it just me though, or did they take a couple of the jokes out? I couldn't find the tree stump that gives you the insert disk message on Melee...

Only problem is got in on my 360 as Steam still doesn't release for another 2 hours (which you can usually add another couple of hours to). I'm used to having slight letterboxing to adjust for my monitor's 16:10 ratio but Monkey Island is ridiculous, big fat borders on every edge.

800MS points each... that's better than the 1200 I thought Madballs was going to be. This is an alright deal for sure.

@Timmeh

It's based on the CD version of the game which, for some crazy reason didn't have the stump joke in. Go figure.

Everything in the game (right down to the animations) is identical to the original in every other way because the new graphics and sound are basically just stapled on top of the original CD version game code.

Haha, yeah - I had a quick look at the Wiki page and it said that the stump was removed because of the number of people calling up tech support. Can't imagine how many calls they got, but it was enough to reference it in MI2 when you call the support line.

I'd really like to see some more of remakes like this for LeChuck's revenge, the Indy games etc.

I can't see them remaking Grim Fandango like people want though, not unless they thought they could make it work at something close to retail price. That would be an immense amount of work and require (I would imagine) substantial rewriting of the engine.

just got MI, the redone graphics are a bit of a mixed bag, sometimes the backgrounds look stunning, sometimes just the same, but with less charm :(. It's still MI though, so it's still awesome. Just wish the update was more consistant. Especially the characters. Hopefully MI2'S even better.

Picking up some MI on PC, for sure. And I think "casually hardcore" is one of the worst phrases I have seen in a while.

Grabbed the XBLA version this morning, and started the Steam version download when it was up. Xbox version is 550 MB, and the Steam version is 2100. I have to wonder what the difference is, but I don't care. I can relive the game that shaped my expectations of all video games that followed it. I may take a nostalgia day just to play through Mechwarrior 2 Platinum and Monkey Island.

any idea why the steam version has such high processor requirements? i mean, it shouldn't be such a complicated game, that a 3 ghz processor should be mandatory.... oh, curse my recently-ended year of unemployment and my woefully outdated computer! :-(
