Money to burn, yet you suck at Guitar Hero? I have something for you

No matter what it is you aren't so good at, there's a solution somewhere between cheating on tests and penile implants. This little device falls somewhere squarely in the middle, allowing you to hack a Guitar Hero controller so it will play all the notes for you while you pretend to play. I think it sucks that anyone would actually use this in competition, but I'm sure someone will try.

At ay rate, no need to worry about coming up against it just yet: with an average price of about $500 to construct one yourself, it's a little too pricey to start popping up commonly just yet. Beware if you're invited to the home of a clumsy mad genius to play GH, however.

I can't decide what depresses me more - the Holocaust, or the person that buys this.

If I walked in to my friends house, caught him playing with this thing after saying he was so great at GH, I'd feel the same way as if I walked in on my brother spank his monkey. It's embarrassing and shameful.

Wait, did you say $500 to build one myself? What the hell parts went into that thing? I feel like there are much cheaper solutions if you want to do this sort of thing. But, it's still stupid and shameful.

Let's just hope no one figures out how to do this cheap and easy enough so that it becomes widespread.

So how does it detect what notes to play and for how long?

Resistors and chips created from the bones of long-dead kings and emperors. When you go to Radio Shack, they're waaaaaaaay in the back, behind a glass case.

This is, quite possibly, the most loserist(?) invention of all time. Fake it on Guitar Hero?

Oh, this is for achievement whores. That's what it is.

That's like buying a tutorial for masturbation: even if you're awesome, you're still in the junior leagues. Except... I don't think you'd show that to your friends.

@Guag

Yeah I understand that, but when you are doing promos and sound like a mix between the dead announcer from The Price Is Right and someone who is constipated, then it gets a bit awkward.

It took them 10 trys to get it lined up with the game...sooo that doesn't seem very practical =P

Sad, yet potentially amusing. I'd get one solely to get a perfect score on Through the Fire and Flames on Expert.

It looks like it would be really time consuming to program a track like Through the Fire & Flames on Expert using that interface. Even if it weren't lame and expensive, I don't think I could be bothered to do this.

Ads at the beginning and end of your show: Acceptable way of paying server bills/making money.

Stopping multiple times to advertise unrelated software in the middle of your show: Whoredom.

There are PC/MMO cheat programs that basically detect pixel colors on the screen and do things according to what the program sees. Seems like it'd be easy to run GH3 PC through this and simply tell it what to do when a certain color passes a certain spot.

The problem, as I see it, with this hardware solution and the solution I just mentioned is that neither could keep up with "Through The Fire And Flames" on expert, and if it can't do that, what's the point?

LAME! So much money invested on something that only works 1 out of 10 attempts, and apparently on EASY? Pass.
