Monday Mind Teasers 7/16/07 photo

You know how it works. With the help of each other, try to figure out all of the disguised video game covers. They all share a common theme that, once solved, can help you figure out the harder ones. This week has a simple theme, but I used some really obscure cover disguises to make each game harder to solve. Don't be afraid to shout out a few ideas even if you're not sure -- this week might take a lot of team work to finish. Good luck!

I can't be certain, but Medium 1 looks like some sort of sword to me, while the scimitar in Medium 2 resting on the hexagonal box reminds me of a title of some sort. Blargh... sword theme? I'm having trouble with this one.

@ Brass:
Well, it's not any of the Prince Of Persia games...

Hard #3 is Bruce Lee: Quest of the Dragon

That was my immediate thought as well... a quick Google search corrected me though.

Are you certain?

Looks like I've finally challenged you guys a bit for a change. The only correct guess so far has been the Onimusha 2 guess, and the theme is still up for grabs as well. keep trying!

I know people are saying scimitar, but I can't help but see a crappy yet familiar feather in hard #1...or a giant banana boat? Leaf boat? Blarg. It looks so familiar too!

I find it hard to be anything but a sword, but it's within the realm of possibility. Lord. I won't get sleep until I figure these out.

Is hard #3 Double Dragon?
Kyuzo's Avatar
Kyuzo at 07/16/2007 23:47
Lets assume it's not a sword theme for a second. Onimusha 2 uses the likeness of Jean Reno and Takeshi Kaneshiro (or is that just Onimusha 3? I don't know haven't played either). So maybe it's games that use the likeness of actors? Hard 3 looks like it can be someone famous. Almost looks like Chow Yun Fat, but that's not the cover to Stranglehold.

Brass at 07/16/2007 23:50
It isn't a sword theme, I'm almost certain. I was only bouncing around ideas... however, as for the the actor idea...
Omniusha used that famous Japanese Actor (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and Omniusha 3 is the one with Jean Reno. I have no idea if Omniusha 2 used anyone like that...

We'll need at least one more game before we can ascertain anything resembling a theme.
Jacki Jinx's Avatar
Jacki Jinx at 07/16/2007 23:54
Meh, I just was assuming it was a game theme of numbers, which is why I guessed Double Dragon. Oni means one. Maybe it is a sequel thing though.

Hm...well, if we’re taking stabs in the dark at the “likeness” theme, though I don’t think that Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny used anybody’s likeness, Hard #3 definitely isn’t Jet Li: Rise to Honor.

@Brass: I agree...does Medium #1 look to anyone else like somebody holding a pair of garden shears (hedge clippers, if you don’t know what I’m talking about), or is it just me?
Brass's Avatar
Brass at 07/16/2007 23:59
Hah, I tried the Jet Li game too... it's because it got in our damn heads that it would be a famous kung fu actor.

Hoooowever... Onimusha 2 used
* Jubei Yagyu. Jubei was modeled after the late Japanese actor Yusaku Matsuda

I've run the gambit from sword to giant shuriken in my thought process... frankly, I still think it looks like a sword of some sort, with a gem or something set at the hilt. I could be way off though.
Samit Sarkar's Avatar
Samit Sarkar at 07/17/2007 00:01
Hahaha...here’s an aside: I Googled the phrase hedge clipper “video game” and one of the results was this, because the entry contained the phrase, “Don't play hacky-sack with a hedge clipper?”

If we're going actors, then I'm guessing Strangehold for the last one. The way his arm is, he could be taking out a gun instead of posing.

Okay, so.
Easy = Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny
Medium 1 = Tales of Destiny
Hard 1 = Make Knight: Destiny's Solider
Hard 3 = Fighter's Destiny

Just leaves Hard 2... could be a LOT of games from what I'm looking at. Destiny games have a lot of bubbles. For starters,

Yeah, once we figured out the theme, I also came across Atelier Iris 2, but it didn’t appear as if the bubbles matched up (no big bubble in upper left part). Same thing with Tales of Destiny 2...like, there’s no big bubble in the upper right corner.
