Monday brings Super Punch Out! to the Virtual Console photo

If you're as worked up about Punch-Out! for the Wii as I am, it may be tough for you to wait it out until we finally get our hands on the game. Nintendo must have considered that Punch-Out! fans are in a major tizzy, and decided to try to calm our nerves (or work them up more, I suppose) by releasing Super Punch-Out! for the Virtual Console. The Tanooki reports we are getting it this coming Monday as part of the Virtual Console releases. Woo!

Since I bought a Super Nintendo kind of late (or rather, my parents did), I didn't get into Super Punch Out! until far after its release, but as many of you know, I'm a hardcore addict of the original Mike Tyson version of the game. Most people say Super Punch Out! is a much better game. Do you agree or do you prefer the NES original?

The only reason i'd put Super Punch Out above the original is because I suck at that game. At least with the SNES version I could make it to the final circuit..

Yeah, original Mike Tyson version is the king. Super Punch Out! has a dude that uses a staff to beat on you. BULLSHIT!

"Gabby Jay! Yay!"

Yep. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out rules all. Little Mac's epic, Rocky-like rise from journeyman fighter to heavyweight champ...Doc Louis's patient but firm mentorship. Now there's drama, conflict and heart! Who's the hero of Super Punch-Out about? Some green guy that you can see through?

I have to go with the original version, easy. It's a far more elegant game. Super is much more of an arcade-style game. I feel like the super punch system kind of dumbs it down a bit. But in Mikey T's, the star system is all about picking you shots and making them count for maximum impact. Experimentation and memorization are huge factors, just like any boss battle. What makes it one of my top 5, however, is that you'll always have to keep your reflexes sharp. Even on your thousandth time through the game.

I love Mike Tyson's Punch-Out more than kittens, puppies and mogwai combined.

There's no way that Super Punch-Out is better than Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. It's blasphemy, really.

Uh....So about the SNES Punch Out!! hate......

Dudes that game owned the original. Almost every boxer had something unique about them (Mad Clown, Narcis Prince, Dragon Chan to just name a few). It was amazing! I liked a few boxers in the original like King Hippo and Great Tiger.

Mike Tyson's had a broken learning curve too. In the original, up until Soda Popinski (Vodka Drunkinski) the game was easy breezy, so it kind of sucked to play for that long, only to get owned hard and have to do it all over again.

I'd buy this but I already have the SNES cartridge. Although, I did buy the Mr.Dream version.

Still, it's nice to see that Nintendo is offering more vc titles that relate to upcoming new releases.

I really liked Super Punch-Out despite how it was different in some ways from the original.

I have biasedly fond memories of the original Tyson version. It felt like a more tight/concise experience than the Super version, which I picked up long after it was just out and hot... or NOT picked up, I don't remember.

Damn you Glass Joe....

Wouldn't the "original" version be the arcade version?

I like Super Punch Out!! better, but I think its too easy and therefore doesn't last as long, when I first got the game back in the SNES days, I beat it on day one, including the Special Circuit. I've still never beaten the original Punch Out!!

Just go buy a used copy of FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 2 for GAMECUBE....as SUPER PUNCHOUT is included on the disc.

It's cheaper and you can move it from machine to machine

Both games rock...
Punch Out!! is a classic! Love that damn game! Such a challenge!
Super Punch Out!! is a great sequel... So much fun!
And Punch Out!! Wii looks to follow the trend!
Man, I actually have very distant memories of playing the arcade Punch Out!! years ago! Your boxer(Mac?!) had this weird green wire frame body... Right?! Ha ha! Anyway, what other boxers where in that arcade game?!
Colette, I'll be getting this Virtual Console game for sure! Training for the Wii version!
*Eye of the Tiger music kicks in*

My love for this game is so much that I don't really care if the previous games were better or more iconic. They should both be worthy of our support.
