Monaco: Tips and Tricks

Monaco: What's Yours is Mine is finally out, and it was most definitely worth the wait. While it is very easy to understand and get into, there are a lot of smaller intricacies that you might not notice when playing through the game if you're not paying close enough attention.

That's where this guide comes into play. I've played through a lot of Monaco and have jotted down many of the small ideas that go a long way to create the perfect heist.

General

  • Remember, this isn't a stealth game. Intentionally causing chaos at the right moments is what separates the best heisters from the scrubs.
  • Enemies can revive each other, so don't completely count out that pesky guard you laid to rest for the remainder of the heist.

  • Sneaking in plain sight is much less suspicious than running, and fills the NPC's “?” meter very slowly. Many times you can sneak right past them without them being alerted.

  • When playing multiplayer, use the HUD to keep track of who needs items and how close they are to getting them. That way you can make sure the right people grab the coins.

  • Each level is beatable without killing any enemies, so feel free to take a stealthier approach for added difficulty.

  • Coins located near exits to other floors should be last priority. You can always grab them real quick before making your hasty escape up the stairs.

  • There are sometimes hidden vents in walls that only appear on the map once they are discovered. Use your innate "map sense" to look for areas that really seem like they should be vents and walk into the wall. If you hear a loud creaking noise, you've found a vent!

  • Have players already in a vent hold the vent open for other members to enter instantly. Bushes are also held open if already occupied by another person.

  • There are no tips or tricks for dogs. They just suck!

  • Tranquilizer darts will reset all radial dials. It’s not worth it to keep trying to complete the action, be it reviving another or escaping to the next area; just move on and circle back later.

  • Locked doors will remain unlocked for a brief period of time after NPCs enter or exit from them. Use them wisely to pass through instantly and avoid pesky radial dials!

  • Think before you die in multiplayer. If death seems inevitable, run to a location that a partner can easily access in order to revive you.

  • Don't rush towards the getaway vehicle. Keep a calm mind and a cool head when escaping. The last thing you want happening is to die on your way out.

Character-specific tips

The Lockpick

  • Remember, not just doors open quicker! Put The Lockpick on point when going in for safes and cash registers, too.

  • The benefits of The Lockpick may seem straightforward, but there's more than meets the eye. The Lockpick saves item uses by being able to open things faster. Normally, especially while escaping, a wrench or smoke bomb can be used to buy more time when a locked door or safe stands in the way. With The Lockpick on board, those items can be saved for other instances.

The Cleaner

  • The Cleaner can heal himself using a health kit in one-third the time it takes other cons.

  • Pay attention while taking cover in a bush, as enemies that get too close will automatically be knocked out and will force The Cleaner out of hiding into plain sight.

The Pickpocket

  • Learn the distance that Hector will run out and collect money. Occasionally, it is possible to peek out of a vent and have him clear a room without you ever being noticed!

  • The Pickpocket is amazing for single-player and speed runs, since you’re able to take more direct routes and not dance around the map for those stray coins.

The Lookout

  • Unless chaos has broken out, always sneak. Always! Patience is a virtue in the entire game of Monaco, but especially when playing The Lookout.

The Mole

  • Digging is loud, be careful!

  • Digging into a wall from a bush will cause NPCs to look your way, but they will never see you so long as you remain in the bush. Some of my best wall digs were from bushes, and they were free of consequence! Especially helpful are bushes located in the corners of rooms since you can dig two walls, opening up the room from two directions.

  • The Mole can enter hidden vents quicker than any other class. Use him to lead the way into vents and hold the vent open for remaining members.

  • The Mole is useful in levels that have few to no bushes or vents as well.  He can dig little alcoves in the walls to provide much-needed cover.

  • NPCs will use your tunnels, so by making long tunnels leading away from the map you create new pathways for the NPCs to get lost in for a while, occasionally removing them from the main map.

The Gentleman

  • Essentially, The Gentleman can travel twice the distance than any other non-disguised heist member can travel before being noticed. This is because he can travel a certain distance before his disguise wears off, then can travel even further until a guard or civilian is fully alerted.

  • Use The Gentleman to traverse a room full of civilians and guards to enter and open up a bush or vent first. Then other party members can follow to safety, even if seen for a short time.

The Hacker

  • Remember, hack every outlet and computer you see! It’s possible to have multiple viruses running at a time, which the Hacker can take full advantage of thanks to outlets.

The Redhead

  • The Redhead can revive fallen cons in half the time it would take another party member.
  • You can't directly choose who The Redhead charms, so keep this in mind when trying to charm a specific target. Make sure that target is the first NPC to be alerted by you.
  • A charmed NPC will stay on you until you go into hiding (vents, bushes, etc). It isn't the worst idea ever to take an annoying NPC (like a dog) away from the majority of the map to make him a nonfactor and always have him follow you around.

So there you have it. I hope this helps you become the mastermind thief you always knew you were. Feel free to add any of your own tips and tricks you've discovered during your stay in Monaco in the comments!

Apparently there are cancellations on the CE versions of MGSV:TTP from Europe and North America. People getting emails saying they are cancelled and such. On top of that is that there's been unboxings that don't have the extras for the Day One edition.

I'll never get how making an inanimate object or a plant look like an animal or just alive somehow is considered more "out of ideas" than just an animal being an animal. That seems more like the opposite of being "out of ideas" to me.
