Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux may be all about the Xbox 360, but he's not above praising PS3 exclusives, happy to admit that Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet was the most creative endeavor of last year.
The Fable creator was speaking at this year's Creative and Business International Network review of the creative economy, where he highlighted that LBP's release was the most important creative innovation of 2008.
"LittleBigPlanet has outstanding creative vision. It’s from a British start-up studio and is one of the defining titles on Japan’s Sony PS3," stated the outspoken designer.
That's nice for LittleBigPlanet, and with all the love that's clearly gone into the game, it's good that other developers would notice and give it due respect. Personally I think the inclusion of Stephen Fry as narrator was its most important innovation, however.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I will dream of that face being mere inches from my own face, screaming "INNOVATION"
*shudder*
I love LBP.
i like to think the same
I think the actual game is pretty much secondary. I'm not even sure it was totally needed for the disc to be great.
I've played some creations that really made my jaw drop and they just keep getting better. I do agree, however, that the enemies are one thing that could be improved. I'd like to see some evil sackboys running at me!
I dunno, the game itself is unlike anything else I've ever seen or played. But I don't see how the game could not be described as creative, it's easily one of the most original titles we've seen over the last decade in my eyes.
But then we had this debate last time, when you reviewed the game - I wasn't happy with you assertion that the offline game matters as much as the online component. As Clance said, the offline game (which I thought was better than everyone else seemed to think, especially towards the end) is somewhat secondary to the online aspects.
If the game was only sold online, guaranteeing that no "offline only" people could even buy it, I wouldn't have felt the need to be so protective.
Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's Group Product Manager for Xbox 360 said in a CES 09 interview by Eurogamer:
"Sony very nicely sent me a copy, and I haven't played it yet. It's on my list. It was one of those holidays where there were just so many games to play in such a short period of time, and I'm still catching up now. LittleBigPlanet is definitely one of the games on the top of my list, I look forward to checking it out."
Jk - but in all seriousness, :), I think LBP is like mario without a real challenge. I can play a few levels then go back to shooting people in the face games. At 26 I need more action. Gears 1 ftw!
GooN, they have thousands of community levels that offer "real" challenges and if that don't give you a boner, go and get the gold medal for not dying once in a level like i did, that shit was fucking hard (like a boner hard) and a real challenge for gamers like me.
Yeah, you said that last time too :-P
To be honest I don't care much for that argument though, people should know what they're buying. And LBP shouldn't really be bought by people who aren't online. As I said at the time, Gears of War is in a similar position and nobody cried foul then.
