Molyneux talks new game, still insists on its purity photo

In an interview with gamesindustry.biz Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux elaborated on his upcoming, unannounced game. In addition to his details from last week about the title encompassing a “single, pure thought,” Molyneux said that his new title would be “very, very different” and “ridiculously ambitious.”

From the interview:

We've actually been working on another project now for a while, and obviously it's ridiculously ambitious, but it's ridiculously ambitious in a very simple way. It's a simple and pure idea, and very, very different to anything I've done before.

Molyneux mentioned that he won’t be willing to go into detail about the title until next year when the game is closer to completion, but added that the title is indicative to Lionhead’s body of work. He also expounded the point that Lionhead will need to find a way to traverse the industry and make this “pure” title relevant to audiences.

What do you guys think this new title will consist of? Do you think it will break ground, or is as special as Molyneux is pitching?

Molyneux is going to come to each and everyone who buy the games house and you can tell him what to do; the usual stuff like cast magic and eat worshippers. It's going to be awesome.

I have no idea what he's thinking.

That said, I'd like to see him un-fable Fable. Make a game about people existing and your character just interacts, which would result in emmergiant-esque situations. There is no destiny, and your "hero" isn't too terribly important to the world.

A real sandbox game, with story arcs, but no driving story line. With powers and ways to get powers, but no tutorial. Your character merely becomes as you wish, the world exists and progresses regardless of the magnitude of your character's role in it.

Either that, or dude's probably about to make Passage in HD.

Molyneux is great at his job, and that's selling games. So until we actually have the game in our hands we won't know how good it is.

Peter's next game will be pure hype - when you pop open the case there will be nothing in there but unadulturated factory air.

No in this case, the 'game' is the speculation and rumormongering. It's 'pure' in the sense that consoles, computers and code have been eliminated from the process.

Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be interesting. As much shit as Molyneux gets for talking too much about his games, they usually turn out better than most of the crap on the store shelves.

I think the thought is "love" or something lame like that. He seems to like to tie his games down to themes that, while important, have been done over and over again. Good and Evil, love, family, etc. Not that 99% of the arts in this world aren't related to one or all of them...

@ MotoRobo-

Isn't it an accurate statement, though? If anything, he catches flack for having plans that are too ambitious and then can't be realized. Which is hilarious, because of all the lazy ass developers and half-assed games that need a patch to even be functional, people like to rail on the guy who wants to do better things than what are even possible.
