Molyneux on new Milo demo: 'ten times more amazing' photo

We saw Peter Molyneux showing off the Kinect title Milo & Kate at E3 2009, but we haven't heard much on the title since. He took Lionhead's newest demo for the title to the TED Global technology event in Oxford to show it off. It was there that he said that this new demo is "ten dimes more amazing" than the one we saw last year.

The demo used an on-stage assistant, which had virtual boy Milo squashing a snail after carefully considering the moral choice. He also taught Milo to skim stones and then helped him clean his room. This whole process was to cheer Milo up as he had just moved to a new home.

I'm sure we'll see some of this demo soon.

I'm hoping for a Milo that develops Tourette syndrome, plays drums with his tongue sticking out, and is a young connoisseur of Japanese porn. We could be like brothers.

I saw Peter Molyneux at a conference once. He was quietly setting up his own table in preparation for a autograph signing just before Fable 2 was launched. He looked sad and old. It made me hate him even more, strangely enough.

"Milo is now anatomically correct so you yourself may consider the moral implications of your actions. I would also like to introduce the Xbox-Live sex offender leaderboards."

I'm sorry, I died of boredom after that paragraph. What else happened?

The monster that lived in everybody's closet as a kid. I'm pretty sure mine looked like that header image.

Back on topic, why is Mollywotsit still actively working on Milo? Didn't they recently dismiss it as nothing more but a technical demo?

I understand you want to play with your new toy Pete, but maybe you should concentrate your efforts on implementing it with your games? The wife at home is worried about you. You're spending far too much time in the office as it is.

P.S. I adblock plus'd that header image.

Yeah, Molyneux trying to overhype an upcoming game is totally to be expected. I say don't even listen to the guy until we know exactly what Milo is going to be like.

I just want to interact with Milo to see how well the AI can respond to everyday conversation. I wouldn't want to own it unless it gave off the sense of sentience. If it did that, I would be amazed.

Damn technological singularity.

I don't know, the concept just still sounds creepy to me.

I wonder if you could screw around with Milo.

Example A: Hey Milo, punch that cat in the face.

Example B: Hey Milo, try to bite your ear.

Example C: Hey Milo, can you put on this dress make up on ?

Example D: Hey Milo, pull down your pants.

Why the Hell would anyone want a sentient twelve year old boy AI? I get having something like Cortana. I get being able to turn it into some kind of creepy boyfriend/girlfriend sim.

But a twelve year old boy? wtf?

The next step is to plug Mylo into a cyborg body. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles tried to warn us about this. I bet if you investigated, that show was probably canceled not long after Milo became self-aware. Coincidence? You tell me.

I gotta know.....whose this marketed to? Other kids the same age? Are they going to teach each other life's tough decisions?

So far I don't get the point. Especially since you can't make Milo do bad (read: cool) things like talk back to his mom and smoke cigarettes....INSIDE the house.

A real kid would not carefully consider the moral choice before squashing a snail. Hell, when I was little we used to turn bikes upside down, work the pedals till the back wheel was spinning as fast as possible, and then chuck snails in and laugh as they got shredded or flew over the roof. Real kids are bastards. Can I make Milo a bastard?

Don't worry guys, given Peter's history of overstating things, a 10x improvement is basically an admission that the whole thing is a failure.

Try this: have a conversation with the Jabberwacky (http://www.jabberwacky.com/). Then imagine it, not as a harmless toy of pure text, but something with a face... the face you see in the header image above. You may find the results... unsettling.

A creature whose form and mind alike are deep within the recesses of the uncanny valley. That is what Molyneaux and Co. will create, and give the name "Milo."

Sleep tight.

Your quote is completely wrong.

Molyneux did not say at the TEDGlobal conference that Milo was "ten dimes more amazing" or "ten times more amazing."

Your quoting a story, that is referencing a past story. Molyneux made this quote at E3 when discussing Milo and explaining that Milo was being shown to a private audience.

Like Handy said, morals are non-existent in kids that are Milo's age, for the most part.

I don't mind Peter at all, in fact I think he's facinating, and I like his games, but it seems he has a bit of a Michael Jackson complex where he wants to recreate childhood experiences, but as an adult has little understanding of what kids are actually like, aside from how he physically sees kids acting, which is in a whole different world compared to what's going through their heads.

I'm 24, and I could tell you what I was like when I was 8, but I would never be able to tell you what was going through my head.

Peter, what I'm trying to say is...finish work on Fable 3 first, please. :) This is cool and all, but there are better implications for your ideas. You're a smart man who does great things when you're focused.
