Only girls and poofters have emotions, that's what my drunk Uncle Horatio Himmler always used to say. He'd hate Peter Molyneux, who has confessed to being "incredibly emotional" over reviews for his latest hype magnet, Fable 2.
"Fable 2 must have been one of the hardest games to review. The world is so big and the story and gameplay are enormous. How reviewers manage to distill such an experience into a few pages is incredible," said Peter, in a manner that seems just a little patronizing to me. I'm surprised he didn't give the CVG editor a pat on the head and a gold star in his coloring book for good measure.
"I found myself becoming incredibly emotional as I read people's reviews and saw how differently the reviewers were reacting to Fable 2," he continued. "Some reviewers played good, others evil some enjoyed the combat more than the story. Some ended up rich and others poor and it's the sheer variety in how reviewers have played the game which has struck us most.
"I'd like to say a personal thank you to every reviewer out there for their patience and belief."
AWWWWWR, PETER! So far, Fable 2 has a very respectable Metacritic score of 89%. We will be adding our own score to that average soon when our own review hits. Will we make Peter all soppy and gooey as well? You'll have to wait and see.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
"I found myself becoming incredibly emotional as I read people's reviews and saw how differently the reviewers were reacting to Too Human", he continued.
Yeah, but is it "20,000 pages" enormous?
Another MSPaint masterpiece.
Sorry no Twinkie until your team fixes it.
I personally thought the same thing with the whole Lair fiasco. I wish more of these guys would at least act like they have a vested interest in what reviewers think of a title.
i was expecting poor reviews to drive him sad when i clicked lol
or saying that his 89 was toooo low. and they are stupid.
I have to agree with you on that. They should have made it possible for you to take your character into your friend's game instead of becomming generic henchman #1.
I'm really enjoying the game. I actually laughed aloud last night reading the descriptions on the items.
Although granted my interest in Fable 2 has been virtually non-existent from the get-go.
Now shut up and let us play the damn game in peace already.
Ok, you love your kids, but shut up about them already :)
The problem is that Molyneux has a long history of shamelessly over-hyping his games which often fail to deliver on his lofty claims.
And a bit of a tangent, but your comment just gave me flashbacks of the whole Eternity's Child review thread. Whoa.
Haze.....
That one game that guy made who was on here. It was so bad that I can't even remember the name...
I'm sure there is more to list.
I've made my choice.
You have a choice not to read it, you know.
Did it ever occur to you fine folks that Molyneux is just asking questions that are posed to him? It's not his fault that CVG and others want to interview him or that Dtoid and others want to present said interviews as news several times per week.
Unless you believe that Molyneux is calling up all of these gaming sites or journalists to solicit interviews from them, you can't blame him for the media saturation of his quotes and opinions. That's the media's choice (to interview him and continually post his *rather uneventful* quotes as "news"), not his.
If people came to you all the time for your opinion of your new game, what would you do? Say "no comment, I'm on the gaming blogs too much already and people are getting annoyed"? Say, "I'm not that enthused about my game and I don't care how it gets reviewed"? I just don't see how any of you can find fault with Molyneux here. It's not as if he's ordering Dtoid or any other site to post EVERY GODDAMN THING HE SAYS as news, right?
I didn't see anything in that quote that indicated he was disappointed with the scores.
Yesh. It feels like a celebrity rumors tabloid in here. What are we, TMZ? Let's pull quotes and make a big deal out of them!
"Peter Molyneux says he prefers vanilla over chocolate - hates the Blacks!"
Peter Molyneux is excited about making games. Remember when were excited about playing them more than we were about bitching about them?
"Lif is stupid. You can never get enough money for the things you want to buy. Girls can be lesbians though, so it's not all bad."
Maybe things would change if Peter miraculously grew some luxurious, flowing hair like those two.
Seriously.
that's what I got out of all this
I really appreciate Molyneux's public emotion with his games.
