Videogame snake oil salesman Peter Molyneux has declared that modern games are becoming boring, due to them all being the same. Fortunately, he's making an on-rails shooter for Kinect, which is pretty radical and differ ... oh.
"I love new ideas and innovation. I'm trying to think of a more diplomatic way of saying this, but I'm just a little bit bored of doing things the same way in games," he said in Xbox World 360 magazine. "While I love all the drama of modern games there is this sameness about it.
"They're essentially the same -- one's got a green palette, one's got a grey palette; you're shooting and ducking and diving and it just seems almost on the point of being a little bit like Hollywood where they have got into this rut with their action films."
So, Peter Molyneux is bored with games that are the same. If that's the case, why did he release Fable three times over?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If that's the case, why did Fable regress as the series went on, until there were practically no RPG elements left in III?
Snake oil salesman is right.
I don't get how people say that the industry is "all FPS games".
Are you not looking for Demon's Souls, Half Minute Hero, Limbo, Braid, VVVVVV, Trine, or the other hundreds of other unique games I could list here that have come out since Fable 1-3 have been released?
"Hi, Kettle, you're a racist prick."
Whenever I read/listen to something Molyneux says, I immediately start trying to convince myself that there is no way this guy is trying to deceive me... Its just too evil for a man involved in making games for a living. I tell myself that he is in his own creative insanity, where he is seeing incredible worlds... Just damn illiterate!
I find I am always disappointed when I defend him in this way. I want to throw ice cold water in his face, and tell him to knock this shit off... Cause I really want to love him and his work.
Dude makes money off of sequels and sameness, but then again why am I even bothering to be surprised that he's biting the hand that feeds him? Not even a year after Fable: The Journey is released he'll be telling us how bad that was too.
I'm seriously getting bored with this guy.
I agree with him. He's a salesman for sure, but that statement makes sense. I'm sure it's less about whether he wants to or not and more like he's stuck making rehashes of the same game.
Well, I guess I am calling him a liar, but in a very flamboyant way.
Dtoiders, please feel free to continue until you are at peace with Peter Molyneux.
in before jimmyx shows up to be a huge Fable/360 apologist.
keep it coming jim
I've been waiting for a jimmyx truthpost for a while. That guy is a one man army.
I fail to see how UltorOscariot's statement was racist. Seems to me you are digging for something to be offended by.

This is the guy who gave us Fable and Black & White. You'll forgive me if I believe him over random wannabe troll kids in the comments section on a site that is losing it's quality in terms of community every day.
He might be a snake-oil salesman but every now and then his 'snake-oil' does cure a headache or two.
Uncharted is the same garbage as Gears of War. One is shaded green while the other, brown. He's not that far from the truth.
Problem?
If only he knew something about making games in which the player character didn't need to move but instead, made the world move around them by taking a hold of the world itself and spinning the thing slightly towards or away from it. That kind of game would work perfectly well with Kinect, almost as if Kinect were conceived specifically to run a game just like that.
I suppose one could say that creativity isn't all a Black & White, completely new or totally derivative proposition.
Alas, poor Pete is just a humble PR man,not in anyway responsible for what a games development studio produces.
Oh Jim, I see what you did there
If Moly got ahold of Call of Duty, he'd no doubt remove perks and replace the leveling system with some kind of universal currency that handles everything. Probably change all the guns to magical weaponry, and set it in some crazy fictional ye-olde setting. And the AC-130's would be giant Hobbes that fly and shit on everything.
And there would be one sole achievement called 'It's not on rails!' that you get for beating the first level.
I'm convinced more and more each day that when Molyneux spent his time at Bullfrog, he didn't have as much of a say as he does at Lionhead, where his work is repeatedly poor.
I loved his stuff at Bullfrog, and forgave him for all the lies he gave on Project Ego (Fable), which, at the time, was one of my most anticipated games ever, but he started going really downhill the more he opened his mouth.
I remember being in High School, having magazine interviews of Molyneux spouting outright lies of elements that would never even come close to making it in the game. He made it seem like Fable would be the the first true third person Daggerfall, with a vast open world that you could affect over the span of years (one huge lie was "you could kill a kid's father, and scar the kid, and in 10 years, that kid would grow up to hunt you - this could all happen real time" - none of that made it in the game in any fashion. Fable I ended up being more like your typical action game, which no real open world to speak of.
"Uncharted is the same garbage as Gears of War."
lol
I love his games, too -- especially the Bullfrog stuff. But that doesn't exempt him from the backlash he's received regarding the lies he's been spouting about his games for nearly a decade now...
He's right, I mean look uncharted has big beefy guys taking on aliens and gears of war has a treasure hunter looking for treasure, it's the same game damn it why couldn't i have seen this before.
On a side note what is the snake oil of the week that peter "snake salesman" Molyneux is selling and will it make my pen..confidence grow while i play games?
that's true, but i felt the platforming in gears is really what separated the two.
