While footage of God of War III and the clumsy demonstration for the PlayStation 3 motion controller-dildo-wand thing stole the limelight during Sony’s E3 2009 press conference, we did get a chance to see another ambitious title under the “Play, Create, and Share” label. It’s called ModNation Racers and the trailer we watched (more or less) is available below the fold.
ModNation Racers is, from what we’ve seen thus far, essentially Super LittleBigPlanet Kart. (Not a bad thing.) Players can create their own maps, fiddle with avatar clothing choices, and decorate vehicles with a variety of hilarious options all the while enjoying intense, little car action.
There’s not enough here to make any sort of base judgment call, but it’s easy to get excited about the potential of the title. Customizable kart racers are rare and decent kart racers are even more infrequent. We’ll keep our eye on this one.
Yeah, I could have sworn I watched this very video on this site a week back.
And if it doesn't have split screen play, there will be a public outcry!
LBP did it right with local and online play. I can't think of many experiences that are more fun than playing it with a bunch of friends together in the same room.
"clumsy demonstration for the PlayStation 3 motion controller"
Am I the only one confused by that? The last thing the motion controller seemed to be was clumsy. I've heard it call a wii knock off a million times, but that thing was responsive as could be.
I was going to say the same thing. In fact, I thought it was easily the MOST responsive and LEAST clumsy of any of the other motion controls at the show.
I didn't see anything clumsy or awkward about it except when the guy kept swinging and missing the ball.
Not the tech's fault, just the dude having bad timing.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Nethertheless Modnation Racers is one of my most anticipated games, which is odd considering it came out of nowhere!
