Currently researching terrorist attacks in France and Germany that looked similar to the ones on MW3.
Probably.
(Do I need to add the obligatory "The terrorists have won"?)
@EPIC-Kx Pretty sure Jim is Foxing it up enough for everyone.
No, because I did not make the comparison. If you'll notice, this story is about a comparison already made.
The quality of your snide sniping has slipped lately.
i lol'd
crazy story for you:
we just outsourced some web programming to a local designer (i'm in san diego), he came to meet us and is a pretty cool guy. he tells us how he used to live in nyc, and how he used to work in the world trade center on the 35th floor. one day he is asked to fly to san francisco to meet with a customer. that day was september 11, 2001. so he just stayed in california.
Star Fox 3DS was gonna come out on 9/11 in America. Now its just coming out on 9/9/11 instead. Can't wait to barrel roll and use the boost through those buildings in the first level!
Jim's saying that Activision already realise that showing New York under any attack will bring about comparisons to 9/11 and that the devs are stressing that it's nothing like 9/11. If anything he's saying that everyone will notice the connection.
I couldn't care less about this series horrible online multi-player,and juvenile community, but the campaign actually interests me now.
"so I've little doubt one of America's fine news networks will make the 9/11 connection before all's said and done."
Implying they haven't made it yet. But yet you yourself start off with the same tired crap. "These days, you can't have anything happen in New York without it being compared to the September 11 attacks, even though it was a decade ago and people really should calm down so as not to justify the very reason why it was done."
Seems to me, from what you wrote, you are making the comparison before anyone else does, but yet you still tell everyone to move on and not make that comparison.
You may think its a "snide" comment, but its actually just your article in a nutshell.
Quick! say something about how I can't take a joke now, and that will clear you from anything you previously said!
Niero can't get that filter in here fast enough.
I just hope they don't have a "No Norwegian" level planned.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
This made me lol more than it probably should have.
Even if it was a terrorist attack reminiscent of 9/11, honestly, who gives a fuck anymore? There have already been numerous film, literary, visual, and musical works regarding the events of 9/11, but interactive media is somehow off-limits? Fuck those hypocrites.
I've gunned down more Nazis in First-Person Shooters than probably ever actually existed. I've participated in the defense of Pearl Harbor against Japanese bomber planes, an incident that actually took place in history and cost innocent people their lives. So how do 50+ years of distance magically make a World War II videogame acceptable? The answer, of course, is that they don't. Enough of this faux selective outrage. If you find something offense to your senses, do the world a favor and fucking avoid it.
You said I was the one to make the connection, implying I was the first to do it, which I am not. The whole story is about Bowling answering to that connection. You're acting like the entire story was "nobody's made the connection yet." The story was Infinity Ward not worrying too hard about potential controversy. There's a whole bunch of words above the one sentence you're focusing on.
And I love that, without a filter, you lack the self control to not read something. That's not my fault, son, that's on your head.
Campaigns from different perspectives. And I don't just mean the SAS or the stupid macho seals. No, I'd like to play as Ivan for a change. I'd like to control the Russians.
It'd be like a Command & Conquer Red Alert (when it was good) alternative campaign where I get to flatten London, zap the tea drinking limeys before moving on and dismantling New York and annhilating the statue of liberty and planting a dirty great big red flag on the Chrysler building. Because the Empire state would be rubble already.
Yeah. I'd like that.
"tea drinking limeys" aye? That may be true but "Sir, I demand satisfaction!". Sorry I just saw that Simpson's episode.
And to be honest, its not just my idea, but imagine a way to make dtoid more your own, with only the stories you want to see on it... make the filters work with authors and tags.. maybe someone only wants to read about platformers and activision... they could do that. John Holmes, megaman, and Madden 2012, they could do that. I'm just saying, as an over all addition to the site, it would be great.
Sorry that you the brunt of this you are just the one i see the most, and the one i disagree with the most.
How is this game big ? if they try to avoid crap like this.
This world is full of idiots..
who are you so mad at? nobody here is offended by this. although, for some people 10 years isn't long enough to forget about their friends, parents, children or coworkers getting murdered. maybe you could, but there's a lot of people that find it a touchy subject still. but i don't think anyone here is being a hypocrite.
Again though, it's really not hard to not read my stuff. You either read this article in its entirety (which is doubtful since you did ignore most of it to try and make a point) or deliberately read the last portion because you know that's where I stick a personal commentary. Either way, you exposed yourself to something you know you don't like, and furthermore you encouraged it (and contributed to my continued success at Destructoid) by commenting. By merely engaging in this discussion, you've ensured the increased attention of many readers who come just to read the arguments that people like yourself get involved in.
I appreciate that you don't like my work. But you're like somebody grabbing someone else's arm, slapping themselves in the face with it, and trying to accuse them of battery.
I understand it's a touchy subject to a certain amount of people. I personally lived through Hurricane Katrina and the events that followed(losing family members in the process). If someone wanted to make any work concerning Katrina, regardless of the format, I may personally find it offensive, and would therefore avoid it. It's really that simple.
There are far more people raped and murdered every year than have died in terrorist attacks; should artists be made to exclude such subjects from their works because of this? Keep in mind, a much greater amount of people are personally affected by rape and murder than terrorism. I just can't understand the mentality of "This should not exist" regarding ANY form of entertainment or artistic expression when "I do not appreciate this, and will therefore ignore it" is a solution that doesn't assert the importance of one's own ability to appreciate something over the ability of others.
1) You can't take a joke, I was just kidding
or
2) It's not my fault you read my stuff, Its not my job to be responsible for what I write.
Congrats bro.
And you are right, I never read your entire article because 1) its usually something you've just copy/pasted from another site I've already read, or 2) its really difficult for me to read those two really large sentences you call an article.
Karma's a bitch, ain't it?

For someone who hates my work, you're pretty damn good at remembering it. :-)
i understand your stance, it was just the "who gives a fuck anymore?" and "If you find something offense to your senses, do the world a favor and fucking avoid it." that seemed to be aimed at people that don't exist here. none of these comments, or anything mentioned in the article has the "this shouldn't exist" mentality you're referring to.
just seems like you are getting outraged when nothing warrants it. but maybe you didn't intend for your comment to sound so angry, or it's just aimed in the wrong direction.
and it's not about the # of people who died in 9/11 vs. the # of people who get raped and murdered each year. it's about the # of people affected by this. when nearly an entire country of 300 million people is affected by one event (and hundreds of millions more around the globe) the impact is far greater. but both subjects should be handled with care in art and games, as it's easy to end up being tasteless and disrespectful and ending up with a garbage product that benefits no one.
