[Update: A Kotaku tipster has sent the site potential cover art for the upcoming Modern Warfare 3, which matches what we see in the above logo. It also features a man holding a gun, which is absolutely shocking.]
While it hasn't been officially announced, we're expecting Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to be revealed any day now. While we wait for the official details and first glimpse of the game in action, have this to whet your appetite: a logo.
The graphic comes out of a leak that sprung on the Electric Hydra forums, where the logo makes its first public appearance. The poster also added an image of something called "Call of Duty: Elite," which we suspect is somehow related to Activision's premium online Call of Duty "Project Beachhead" service.
"This platform will include a suite of services and content plan that will unite and ignite the community like never before," said CEO of Activision Publishing, Eric Hirshberg on the company's recent investors call when speaking of Beachhead. "The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time."
Both "Project Beachhead" (or should we just go ahead and say Call of Duty: Elite?) and Modern Warfare 3 are expected to be officially revealed ahead of E3 this year.
Upcoming titles possibly leaked or not yet announced? [The Electric Hydra Forum]

You mean, like they've been together for years? Also if this isn't a subscription service that grants extra maps/gameplay bonuses I'll be amazed.
Also I just read something interesting on those electric hydra forums which made me think. I wonder if this is going to be Activision's Pay2Play dealy that they've been talking about for years?
i really wanna see their Pay 2 Play plan. i will laugh my head off, then watch 20 million kids sign up.
This.
Uh, whut?
Isn't that like saying we're bringing Burgers and Macdonalds together for the first time?
I reckon I'll skip this one, but i always say that, and then you see your friends list full of people playing CoD, and there's nohting new out for months around it.
CoD's success with me personally is based purely on indirect-online-peer-pressure.
Not a good look.
I'll try to avoid this one, but man, there had better be some other good games out around the same time!
Phew, Battlefield 3 should be around to save the day! Yay!
This is the same with me.
And if Elite involves a switch from occasional map packs to a subscription service that offers more regular content updates, then I can definitely see some people going for it, although I'll be too busy with Skyrim :)
Although unlikely, it would be rather funny if BF3 were to take the sales crown, just to watch as Battlefield then became the most popular - and thus most popular-to-hate - series in gaming.
Also, dedicated servers or GTFO
This x3
I would think that EA would have to introduce forced peer-to-peer and fire everyone at DICE first before they reach the same level of meddling.
Then again, Dragon Age 2.
Nothing to see here, just an IP getting raped, move along people.
and isn't Resistance 3 set to release around this time too?
Brilliant! (...and also pass)
Also, inb4 Modern Warops Defenders. Ahh crud, I'm too late to the party...
Also,BF3!
that logo
is
shit.
Cross platform online multiplayer.
Also, isn't that "elite" spelled like an ambigram?
That could be a clue to the plot of the single player.
Illuminati conspiracy.
Let me cite a few examples for you. Halo 2, shadowrun, and the best one so far; Portal 2, all of them cross platform, and portal 2 doesn't come with a subscription fee on top of whatever else you pay.
There are probably other examples of cross-platform play, but it isn't really new, it just hasn't become widely used.
Having a regular game alongside a premium service is never a good idea when you want to "unite" the community. While everyone and their mother will buy this game, fragmentation isn't a good idea.
