And it's a kid, not kids. It's not like a preschool got bombed.
And as always, it will be skippable I'm sure, being a cutscene.
"No, no. The little girl needs to say 'daddy' about 8 more times."
"I agree. Also can we have her spinning around and playing before the bomb goes off?"
"Yes. Definitely. We should also have the wife say something along the lines of 'This is your daughter' because people are stupid and wont understand unless we tell them."
THEY LET KIDS PLAY GAMES LIKE THIS?
now a terrorist car-bomb that tear apart the "happy family on vacation"...
Quite a lame move to make people talk about the game if it cannot be avoided with certain choices during your play.
But hey, i guess that your typical FPS addicted gamer loves this stuff, so meh...
Then, the "No Russian" level in Modern Warfare 2... meh. It felt really forced, and every minute of it seemed to whack you over the head with a plank of wood, screaming "LOOK AT ME! AM I NOT SHOCKING AND CONTROVERSIAL?? AM I NOT EVEN MORE SHOCKING THAN THE NUKE SCENE WE HAVE TO TOP?? AM I NOT???". It felt really forced, pointless and drawn out. This here... I don't know. Not quite as bad as "No Russian" in my opinion, but you can still feel that it's just there because they think they _have_ to include a shock moment in every COD game.
I don't get it, we're not asking for shit like this, it's like they just want to make games look bad... It's less bad then 'no russian' but still...
Either way, this seems like it was just put in with the sole purpose of causing some controversy and getting articles into shit like the Daily Mail.
In No Russian, the hundreds of people you see being slaughtered (whether you choose to take part or not) are being targeted, gunned-down deliberately.
In this, the two people you see die were not the target. They were just collateral.
No Russian was shocking because "you can take part in a mass slaughter of innocents." Here, you just witness a car bomb and there happens to be a little girl caught in the blast. If you'd been watching from a different angle, you probably wouldn't have seen anybody.
The only way this is comparable to "No Russian" is the fact that Fox News will still talk about it like the bunch of window-licking assclowns they are.
This also reminds me how games should aviod portraying kids because it just looks awkward. eg Heavy Rain.
I seem to be one of the few people really excited about this game. IW have consistently made brilliant single player modes.
Winner gets to be named King Cool for a week.
Your move, Infinity Ward.
Same shooting gallery Multiplayer the casuals lap up - check
Dopamine overload progression system - check
Short, over the top campaign - no doubt
Really shaping up to be YET ANOTHER CoD game eh.
I'm bored of these over designed marketing tools, they're not really games just like Xfactor songs aren't really music. They're just a tool designed to take money off of people.
YAWN
Give me gameplay that actually makes me think and work with a team over flashy marketing gimmicks any day.
/goes back to playing Battlefield
I always wondered what it would be like to see No Russian for the first time whist playing but I can never get that. Please change it before you ruin it a little for others. Modern Warefare as a series doesn't have enough story to justify spoiling ANYTHING.
Personally, I think it's an effectively done scene. No, it's not in-your-face shocking like No Russian was, but I think that was for the best. It was a more down-to-earth one, and I think that made it more brutal, in a way.
It's sad that the community want games to push boundaries and tackle content, but act like this when a game does it, especially a game as influential as Call of Duty. I guess because it's mainstream, it's not allowed.
And yes, I know that Infinity Ward hasn't been the most subtle and classy with its subject matter, but at least it's *trying* something, unlike all the ball-less games out there that won't entertain the thought of trying something with a little grit.
I like how all these horrible scenes take place in other countries. This despite the game being about a Russian invasion of the US. It wont be truly controversial until innocents get slaughtered on US soil. Of course they would never show that, since it might hurt US game sales. All that aside, this scene was so insanely cheesy and contrived that it didn't really make me feel anything other than an eye-roll.
And they say games desensitize people.
