Modern Warfare 3 is a sequel to a popular first person shooter franchise, and doesn't do anything to *damage* that. Nobody's expectations were being shit on with this game. People that bought MW3 got exactly what they wanted. I think "hardcore" gamers need to realize that popular doesn't = bad. Then again it would seem most "hardcore" gamers lack common sense and/or emotional balance.
Besides, it's thanks to MW that we now have so many first person shooters, creating the enthusiasm to want to play different games such as Battlefield 3 and even Goldeneye Reloaded, among lesser-known FPS games. I talked to a friend of mine about MW3 and BF3 and she asked me if I'd ever played MAG. The videogame world does not exist in a vacuum where only MW exists. What's especially vexing is that the FPS is effectively the modern-day equivalent of a shmup. I imagine years from now the same people writing off the FPS genre as being "creatively bankrupt" will be the same people talking about how "hardcore" they are in about 10-15 years time if history is any indication.
Anyone paying $60 for CoD and surprised at what they got is probably not smart enough to write a review, or better yet, read a real review first to see if it's their thing.
"THUMBS UP IF YOU THINK THIS IS BULLSH1T"
The same article is on a few site including IGN Did Activision send out the word to get the press machine rolling in response to fact every site that allows player reviews they have slated MW3 for its lack of innovation and therefore disagree with the critics. Over rated scores the critics response is we are right the majority of the 6 million people who brought MW3 and don`t like it and have made that known are wrong is honestly pathetic.
The pumped up reviews were one thing but now this joint effort to protect MW3 from player reviews further proof of corruption. Its not just Meta critic is Amazon and ever other major site that allows player reviews. Jimbos reviews was well off the mark stop trying to cover your asses. Face MW3 is nothing like a 9.5 a fair score would be 6.5/10 if the two score are mixed that looks about right to me.
