Machinima held their first ever awards show last Friday at the Red Bull's North American Headquarters in Santa Monica. Awards were given, games were played and Red Bull was had.
So who won? Modern Warfare 2 took home six awards for best multiplayer, best control, best replayability, best weapon, best original score and Game of the Year. Other winners of the night included Halo 3: ODST, Batman Arkham Asylum, Plants vs. Zombies and more. You can get the full list of winners after the break or check them out via the YouTube video above.
What do you think of Machinima's awards? Think Modern Warfare 2 deserved it?

He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Gee, with as much MW2 is tossed around on this list, surprised that Ghost didn't win for Most Compelling Character of the year... Seriously, only games I see on there that deserved what they got are Uncharted, and Batman AA, with maybe MW2 taking home the gold for best Multiplayer. But seriously, where's Borderlands?
Video Game awards are stupid. I love gaming and all, but do we really need to subject ourselves to even more conflict than what already exists with the console and company wars? Leave pointless awards to music, movies and television. Let games be games. So what if Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 keep getting all these GOTY wins. That doesn't mean that other games aren't good in their own right. All this does is proceed to discourage new IPs. All companies are going to make are sequels. Two years from now it'll be Uncharted 3 and Modern Warfare 3 and we all know it.
Also how did MW2 win Best Control. Ontop of that how is that awarded?
Now I do appreciate Halo, but this isn't a biased statement. No first person shooter on the console has right best control layout unless it completely mimics Halo 3's. Everything is right where it should be. I threw WAY to many randomy grenade in MW2 during my very short free-play time with it. As I wont give Activision my money.
Best control should be give to Forza Motorsport 3. Why? Well because with a car with a sequential 6+1 gearbox and while using the clutch actually affects the game. For example, if you do not rev-match (car-nerd terms here) while downshift the rear tires lock up and you go into a spin. Just like with real race-cars.
@TheRemix
I can agree that Uncharted 2 and Batman deserve what they picked up but I think I'd also say that Best Indie Game I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMBIES 1N IT!!!1 deserved an award. Indie games rarely get love in the yearly award shows and such. IMAGWZ1I!!!1 definitely grabbed my attention this year with its replay value, scoreboards (although only local) and a great custom-made song didn't hurt either.
As far as Borderlands and its place "Should Be" place on this list, I'm not so sure it makes the cut. I own and still enjoy the game but the story in the game wasn't quite up to par with the game itself and it really didn't come original when you think about how much of the game was inspired by movie, tv and other games (ie: Mad Max, Firefly and Diablo). Yeah, Borderlands was a solid FPSRPG and that genre hasn't been done any better to date but the game as a total package doesn't do anything well enough to deserve an award (imo of course.)
Yea, the score to MW2 must of really been something else, especially I don't even remember it being played through most of the game. Guess Activision, Infinity Ward were just able to write bigger checks then the competition this year...
@Dustin Withrow, you sir are indeed correct that it is good to at least see an Indie Game category that actually puts the emphasis on Indie. We'll probably end up seeing less of it as the years come and go, so might as well take it all in now while you can, and throw some support towards your favorite indie developers.
And about Borderlands, I hear what you're saying. It for sure didn't have the best story, and it was lacking in a few areas, although I think of all spots, it deserves at least some notice for it's replayability. That being said, I personally think Batman AA was the best single player experience of the year, and even though it was lacking MP, should of snagged up GotY. Just my opinion though. :P
I hate to sound like SPORTS but where is the sports category? I'd have liked to see whether or not NHL 10 snagged it. I thoroughly enjoyed that game and I think it deserves all the praise SPORTS showed it this year.
I'd say at least a bit more Uncharted love is warranted. Although I'm good with MW2 getting multiplayer, replayability, and best original score. That's Hans fucking Zimmer, after all.
MW2 set back Multiplayer with the removal of dedicated servers and modding. The right Direction should have been adding this features to the console version with cross platform play.
Best Indie Game:
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMBIES 1N IT!!!1 (Ska Studios)
Too true.
I don't agree with much of MW2's awards, it's not like it's anything too new since the first one. And since ODST was an option I insist the best weapon is the Spartan Laser. End. Of.
Nah, cross platform play would certainly make all the now "casual-hardcore" (seriously, the entirety of my sports team besides the gaming nerd [me]) realize how crappy they actually are compared to PC players.
They ask why I don't play that game, especially considering I work at agame store, and I say "You wouldn't understand my arguements against it."
This is pretty damn shallow. It's almost the perspective of a Dad walking in and seeing what his 12 year old son is playing during the afternoon. "Oh dude, Dad, the Joker is such a badass. Check out this ending! The guy is so crazy he *spoilers edited out*! Isn't that compelling!"
No, son, that is not compelling. You do not know what that word means.
This whole award show seems like a young boy floundering with his first girlfriend's bra strap, attempting to satisfy her in ways that he will not grasp for years. "You like this right? Ya, you like it. Have some more."
No, you are all idiots. Your travesty of an award show vomits on the idea that video games are evolving as a medium. You go ahead and give your awards to the Transformers of video games, all shiny with it's hundreds of millions of dollars in marketing. I liked that movie too, it had robots and boobies. Just keep in mind that's never going to earn you any respect from anyone worth having it from.
i play alot of MW2, but i still think Arkham Asylum wins Game of the Year award. And yeah what is with MW2 winning best control, Batman has that game beat hands down with both simplistic and responsive controls
Yes because the best multiplayer of all year definatly goes to the game where you can snipe with shotguns, denies party chat, oh and the whole I can't get into the right game mode because IW decided they needed absolutly no beta. Yay Ground War with friends! Nope 18 player Free For All Team Deathmatch Domination on RUST!! This game's MP is as broken as it is addicting.
Dead Pixel's a nice guy, Inside Halo rocked back when Sodagod co-hosted though...I love machinima. I fucking loath machinima.com nowadays.
Their youtube last year was a great place to see new machinima and the big guys at the same time and aspire to do some yourself. Now it's flooded with trailers, walkthroughs, and about 20 other things that just barely slide by as machinima-related and they ILLEGALLY pay the top machinimators (The incentive of "Get so many views and we pay you" kinda directly contradicts the laws of machinima laid down by Microsoft and 90% of M.coms hosted shit is Halo)
I'd fucking love to get paid to do something I love but not when it's fucking giving up your artistic rights to meet deadlines and put on a smiley face for the fans. Smooth Few Films, Ross Scott, Rooster Teeth, people remember them because they made good shit.
Digital Ph33r will be remembered for putting a condom on a action figure then never finishing a drama just to be a pretentious prick about it.
Sounds like they'll be better off just scrapping all the awards for a "Most Mass appeal" award and giving that to MW2.
I liked it for the first couple of weeks, but it's really nothing that special or interesting, I didn't even notice the music, and the the multiplayer is not as good as the campaign.
As I say, it wins the "Most Mass appeal" award but that's about it in my eyes.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. However, no Left 4 Dead 2 love? :(

That is what is "Best Control."
