Modern Warfare 2 scalpers charging obscene prices photo

If you thought that Activision was bad when it came to game prices, you should take a look at the scalpers who are currently charging ridiculous prices for Modern Warfare 2: Prestige Edition. The limited edition package, which includes night vision goggles, is already sold out around the United Kingdom, which means that shifty-eyed con-merchants have descended upon eBay with their ill-gotten wars.

The worst part? People are actually PAYING the prices!

One particular seller seems to have pushed his luck by attempting to charge $250 for the full kit. However, one UK seller is winning a number of bids for his two copies, both of which are asking for £170. A click on the search page, however, and you'll see even worse prices: £249, £280, and even £299 are being demanded by some of the scalpers.

Wow. I think Activision itself was asking entirely too much for this gimmicky special edition, but if you actually pay nearly three hundred quid for it, then you are officially a moron, my friend.

[Thanks, Stefan]

Probably parents buying it for their overly pampered spawn.

People should know better. I can go down to the used army shop and get all the gear i need for 300 of the queens British pound. Even then, i would probably have enough for the game afterward.

Wow...if not for my silly little conscience, I could use this as a highly viable get-rich-quick scheme. Or, get-a-moderate-amount-of-money-in-your-pocket scheme...

If someone's stupid enough to pay even the retail price they don't deserve to have money.

Hmm. I'm going to do a preemptive strike and preorder a couple of these at Gamestop. I don't want one myself but I'm sure there is someone who does.

Maybe this is Activisions way of seeing if dumb asses will pay high prices for a game.

Well, here in Mexico there's only one retailer selling the Prestige Edition. Aparently they got the exclusivity over the Hardened & Prestige Edition.

The Hardened is sold out, it costs 1,590.00MXN or 120.00USD

But the Prestige is still being sold, it costs 2,999.00MXN or 226.00USD

It's name is GamePlanet, kind of the mexican version of GameStop

Blame the people bidding on it, not the people offering it for sale. They'd be shit out of luck if there wasn't a market for the stupid goggles.

No one has even seen these goggle working yet, right?

Its gonna be binoculars with green bits of plastic fliter paper stuck on and a button that makes a whurriiiinnnn sound like cod/splintercell. If they were real night vision then they would have been shown off by now.

I hope it turns out that the goggles are actually kaleidoscopes.

This thing got shown off this week at the GAME conference, snazzy UK only version with 12 inches of Soap. It's the Hardened edition in there. £120 of Her Majesty's golden discs seems a tad on the heavy side though.

Sorry I couldn't find a non branded image of the chap, please do not consider this an advert for GAME.

I'm not sure who pisses me off more the scalpers charging obscene prices, or the fucktards actually paying it. In the scalpers defense that is supply and demand at its finest.

It's one thing to pay more money for something that can help you in one or more games (IE: SF4 controller), but to pay outrageous prices for NV goggles that are a lower end model that only cost about $60 to begin with?

Have fun kids.

@Heros: Depending on how you look at it, you could also say that it's supply and demand at its worst - on an ethical level, as far as I'm concerned.

And for anyone who's hard-up to get night vision goggles...
