In the first five days of release, the game sold an estimated $550 million, raking in more cash than blockbuster movies such as James Cameron Presents James Cameron's Avatar By James Cameron and Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince.
Bobby Kotick is rumored to have now fitted his penis with a special valve that replaces his semen with warm liquid gold, and demands that his friends, family and employees refer to him only as The Man With The Million Dollar Orgasm.
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan 13, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News
Network/ -- Activision Blizzard, Inc. <http://www.activision.com/>
(Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty:
Modern Warfare 2 continues to set sell-through records crossing the $1
billion mark in retail sales worldwide since its launch in November,
according to internal Activision estimates.
In its first five days alone, the game sold an estimated $550 million
worldwide, outpacing five-day worldwide theatrical box office gross
figures for such films as Avatar, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
Prince and The Dark Night, according to internal Activision estimates
and boxofficemojo.com.
"Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and
shattered theatrical box office and video game records," said Robert
Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "There are only a handful of
entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark,
which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass
appeal of this game."
Modern Warfare 2 is rated "M" (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood, Drug
Reference, Intense Violence and Language. For additional information

Great way to start my morning, Jim. Thanks for that.
Because reasons.
And yeah, the man with the million dollar orgasm has done well with this (poor overrated) game.
*Cough*
Should this come as any suprise, really? And besides, games and movies are totally different things, oh wait I forgot all the hardcore want games to be movies, or "experiences".
Have asked Niero to fire me and hire you, since you obviously know my job better than I do.
There is one writer on this site that wants movies to be games.
They see you trollin'...they hatin'...
Also this IS news, because that's a metric butt-ton of money they made on a game. Which I still haven't bought, despite all my friends telling me I need to. Screw you, Activision.
I don't want you fired, I just want you to stop twisting everything you post into flame bait. I'm actually a fan of your work when you're not blatently trolling.
What was it, 93 on metacritic? Pull your heads out of your arses people.
Hamburgers are $1, they probably made 3 times more then MW2.
My point being....absolutely nothing.
^--THIS
In fact, I'm sure Kotick's read this and is calling for penis-fixture estimates. Jim deserves a deluxe fruit basket for such a marvelous idea.
soon 100 billion dollars....
Muhahahahha!
There was no challenge at all - I sprinted through the stealth level to no detriment, it was ridiculously short for £60 and the online (when its working) is full of squealing racist children who aren't even old enough to buy the game for themselves (just to list three).
I would have had more fun amputating my arm with a lawnmower before beating myself to death with the soggy end.
OPINIONS!

"I don't want you fired, I just want you to stop twisting everything you post into flame bait. I'm actually a fan of your work when you're not blatently trolling.'
Show me the flame bait in the original blog. Gee, you can't? That's because there is none. Troll somewhere else, you're not wanted around here.
In context "James Cameron Presents James Cameron's Avatar By James Cameron " is flame bait. Why not list other games that have made a billion dollars instead of rewording a press release to show that he doesn't like James Cameron? Probably because that would require a little work on his part. I was saying the movie box office comparision wasn't news not the fact that the game made over $1 billion
1: "In context "James Cameron Presents James Cameron's Avatar By James Cameron " is flame bait."
How could you not see humor in that?
2: "Why not list other games that have made a billion dollars instead of rewording a press release to show that he doesn't like James Cameron?"
I believe Jim is stating in a comical way that he believes James Cameron has an inflated ego, and don't recall anything about Jim not liking him.
3: " I was saying the movie box office comparision wasn't news not the fact that the game made over $1 billion."
As recently as a decade ago, movie-execs scoffed at the idea that the video game industry could generate the type of revenue that Hollywood does. Therefore, the fact that MW2 can compete with the highest grossing films of all time is, in fact a big deal, and news worthy.
What KwikPwn said.
@KwikPwn
Get an avatar. =)
In fact MANY of my new game purchases have been HIGHLY incentiviized.
Halo3:ODST came with a $20 giftcard and an action figure at Toys R Us.
I spent the $20 from buying MW2 on Assassin's Creed II along with a $5 off coupon code from Ubi and getting it for a mere $40.99.
I have preordered Mass Effect 2 and trading in my remaining $10 credit from amazon I am getting it for $36.99. And IT is going to give me another $10 credit when it ships.
I got Need For Speed: Shift(PS3) for $25 in an Amazon Lightning Deal.
Dragon Age was $56.99 from Amazon.
I got Brutal Legend, Little Big Planet:GOTY, and Uncharted 2 among thieves in a Buy 2 get 1 free sale.
I got Forza 3, Fallout 3: GOTY, and Ratchet and Clank Future: Crack in Tije in another Buy 2 get 1 free deal at best Buy.
I got New Super Mariop Bros. Wii for $50 with a $10 credit at Amazon.
I got Wolfenstein for $19.90 and Overlord 2 for $9.90 from Gogamer.com during their black friday sale.
I bought Borderlands from Best buy for $30 using $30 in rewards points from buying other stuff there.
I just got Darksiders and Bayonetta together for $120 at best Buy and THEY gave me $40 on a giftcard that I will probably spend on Bioshock 2, God of War III, or Dante's Inferno. Two of those (Bioshock 2 and Dante's Inferno) also come with $10 credits for preordring them at Amazon though I won't be able to take advantage of them if I buy them at Toys R US where the giftcard is.
I was going to spend the $40 on Dark Void (which also gives another $10 credit at amazon) but the early reviews have not been encouraging.
If publishers and retailers are commonly incentivizing sales by 16.7% to 33% off of the normal $60 price then OF COURSE sales will seem higher than expected. Duh.
Modern Warfare 2 might as well be the next Halo.
