Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop's most preordered game ever photo

Modern Warfare 2. It is popular. Infinity Ward's terrorist-lovin' shooter is looking set to become one of the biggest videogames of all time, with GameStop declaring that it has more preorders than any other title in the retail chain's history.

"By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time," says GameStop's Tony Bartel. "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."

This is, without a doubt, the biggest game launch of the year, and it's no surprise that a number of games skulked off into 2010 to avoid its all-consuming path. Also, before you say it, yes we do know that we're writing a lot of Modern Warfare 2 stories lately -- it's the biggest game release of the year, dummy!

The GameStop in Statesboro, Georgia, where I reserved my copy, as of yesterday had 508 preorders. The midnight release could be absolute chaos, we shall see.

It's also the world's most overhyped/overrated game ever.

Sorry MW2 you will have to wait a bit, since I'm giving my money to Valve and their very aggressive zombies. I mean damn, those zombies will kick and punch the shit out of you, but not one of them bites you!

I'd say its the most hyped. I'm pulling for NSMBW to be the real big boy.

Most of the stores in my area have had to stop taking pre orders (for the regular, and the ridiculous "special edition"), so yeah, I'm sure it'll sell like crazy.

Unfortunately, I don't have a 360, I honestly like to only keep track of one system. Granted, now I have a Dreamcast (and I WILL be buying Ecco the Dolphin and Crazy Taxi for it), and still have the Wii.

Truth be told, I didn't really enjoy the first Modern Warfare, it just wasn't my kind of game.

That, and once again, Mario is taking my money, thanks a lot New Super Mario Bros. Wii....

News flash! Sometimes, every once in a great while things are popular because they are good, case in point Modern Warfare! Can't wait.

No is saying the game will be good. Mac's are good but still you can't customize and have to pay shit loads for them. In this case you can't have custom maps or dedicated servers, and that is a deal breaker for me to "purchase"

already played it (arr) and decided it dosent warrent a pre-order. If you play online then it's probably worth it but I don't and the game is short, the spec ops just don't do it for me, and I was not a fan of how it ended.

Everyone's getting it, regardless of what the people say about controversy. It seems that it's not going to be enough to deter them from purchasing it, what with the fact that people fall for hype every time, anytime. That and fuckin' sweet multiplayer/storytelling action!

I'm gonna go ahead and quote Yusuf Amir from the Ballad of Gay Tony here:
"Fuck the people. Fuck them all! Whip out your dick and piss all over them!"

i was a huge fan of the original call of duty. you'd often hear me say the game was underatted.

Now the call of duty series is what i call "sold out"

same with guitar hero.. orignal = awesome, series has "sold out"

It might be the biggest but it's also the most boring. So far down the list of games I want to play this year that I'll probably never even get around to it, and I rather like shooters that aren't Halo, Daikatana, or The Darkness.

Sorry to tell you, but I guarantee this game will remain the same price for a year or two possibly more. Halo 3 is still like $50.

Pumped for the game getting on release, no pre-order though.

Also, I dislike that there's no wii version, because the IR pointer makes a world of difference to me.

I'm not actually sure why this is the biggest the year, though. It lost co-op, dedicated PC servers, and party chat. That really does restrict a lot of the social elements that all the most popular shooters thrive on.

@ glitched,

Yeah.. I just hate it when I go into multiplayer mode of a video game and people are actually playing it still 5-6 years after it's released! That sucks so bad. Why do people have to like video games that I happen to like too? Like, what a bummer man.

Hahaha. Seriously, I wish more games would "sell out" like this so I could actually play them with people online when I wait a month or two after release to buy them.

The weird thing is you can play as a terrorist and kill civilians. But a game like Six Days in Fallujah is much too controversial. Shows how much popularity makes a difference.

They've been taking pre-orders forever. I was asked if I wanted to reserve "Call of Duty 4 Two" As soon as the game was announced.

"the biggest entertainment launch of all time" Does this include Harry Potter books and all of that shit?
