Modern Warfare 2 has a premium strategy guide, seriously photo

Not content to have two special editions of the game itself, Modern Warfare 2 will also have a "Prestige Edition" strategy guide. Yeah, aren't we going just a little overboard with the whole "premium" thing now, guys?

Brady has revealed two versions of the official Modern Warfare 2 strategy guide, a normal one and a more expensive one. The main differences are the fact that the Prestige Edition is hardcover and includes information on how to obtain the game's Achievements and Trophies. Apparently that makes it worth £20 in the UK, while the inferior "Signature Edition" costs £13.

This is absolutely amazing, and I really don't know what else to say about it. Hit the jump for the press release.

BradyGames Reveals Official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Guide

Strategy guide publisher BradyGames announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide, available 9th November

Tuesday 3rd November/… Official strategy guide expert, BradyGames, today announces it has been working exclusively with Activision and Infinity Ward on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide – the ultimate accessory to the most anticipated game of 2009. Published by BradyGames, for PAL regions, the guide, which is the only choice for gamers looking to discover everything the new theatre of operations has to offer, will be released the day before the game, on 9th November 2009, with an RRP of £12.99 for the Signature Series book and £19.99 for the Prestige Edition hardcover that also includes additional bonus content.

BradyGames’ Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Signature Series Strategy Guide is an essential addition to any Call of Duty player’s arsenal, weighing-in at over 300 pages with an exclusive bonus foldout and has been written by one of the videogames industry’s most highly respected guide authors, Philip Marcus and multiplayer specialists the Sea Snipers, in direct collaboration with Activision and Infinity Ward for Xbox 360™, PlayStation®3 and PC.

The only officially-licensed guide features an in-depth walkthrough of every single-player mission and the “Special Ops” two-player cooperative mode, highlighting battle-tested tactics to ensure success in defeating this latest threat to world peace. With laser-targeted precision, this Signature Series guide reveals the locations of all unlockables and secrets, including special weapons, camouflage and challenges.

The thrill and excitement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode is also covered in a dedicated and highly-detailed section, providing online players with expert tactics for team-based play, as well as custom maps displaying vital locations in each mode of gameplay and more. The official Signature Series guide is also the one-stop supply drop on how to attain all of the game’s Xbox 360 Achievement Points and PlayStation 3 Trophies, with the associated bragging rights that go with knowing you’ve completed some of the game’s most intense challenges before anyone else.

Beautifully crafted and illustrated, readers of this, the official companion guide to the world’s most anticipated game, can benefit from the hundreds of hours of play the authors have invested in covering every square foot of gameplay; no stone or supply crate has been left unturned to guarantee that players get the utmost from their game featuring devastating new weapons and attachments, more compelling perks, exciting new game modes, more character class options and a gripping new campaign.

Mike Degler, Director of Licensing, BradyGames says: ‘”All of us at BradyGames are thrilled to be working with Infinity Ward and Activision again on the Modern Warfare 2 strategy guide. We were given unprecedented access to the game and the development team at Infinity Ward which inspired us to create one of the best strategy guides ever published.”

Ha this is getting silly. Does anybody even use strategy guides anymore? Especially for an fps? What could it possibly say?

Jim, clearly Kotick and Activision heard that you would support MW2, and needed to do everything in their power to regain their evil points, so that Kotick could still use his force lightning at maximum effectiveness.

I don't really use strategy guides much anymore, but sometimes they can be fun to read if there's lore or game background stuff thrown in. This seems dumb though, strategy guides are already overpriced without creating a "premium" edition version of them... Especially for an FPS like CoD. Do we have puzzles now? Mazes? Even the Doom 3 guide I've got at home kind of has a use, since there are puzzle parts, or passwords for terminals, etc.

So basically they took the thing that most people use a strategy guide for - finding secrets/achievements etc. and made sure you had to pay extra for it.
Compared to any strategy guide ever produced since the dawn of ever, the regular MW2 guide is an inferior product. By design.

Wow.... what scum.

I decided against getting MW2 when the PC price jumped ten dollars with no reason whatsoever. It seems like every week something new appears that justifies that decision -- the dedicated server business, civilian killing, FAGS, and now this. Do you want my car keys too, Activision? A night with my wife?

Why is everyone acting like Activision is pioneering this? Didn't Gears Of War, a game with absolutely no fame, also have a collectors edition strat guide? (fact check please)

Twilight Princess also had a collectors edition guide. Two of them if I remember correctly. Where's the hate there?

I remember LoZ: Ocarina of Time had like 3 different versions of the same guide. Each with a few more pages of information. Really you were just paying for the nice looking cover. Instead of buying them I looked guides on the internet and finished it 100% in a week.

Hey, if people will buy a $150 version of a game, then why not offer a more expensive strat as well? However, removing the achievement / trophy guide from the standard edition is a total dick move no matter how you cut it. Kinda like those guides that used to have "online exclusive" sections that pimped their crappy website instead of actually giving you all the info on the page.

I really don't have a problem with a hardback version - you can either buy it or not, like every other hardback book version in existance.

But yeeesh, a strategy guide for a first person shooter is already quite thinly justified as is (even more so with Gamefaqs), and the paperback doesn't include trophy/achivement details in it for £13? That's just taking the piss.

I hope nobody purchases this. I mean, you could always look up on how to get Achievements (Ever heard of Achieve360points.com or Xbox360achievements.org? Two excellent sites for that stuff). Not to mention that it's also FREE. Hell, even guides are free online, so I don't see the point of buying guides anymore. This is just stupid, to put it bluntly.

Not sure how helpful a strategy guide would be for a CoD game. They've always been pretty linear for the singleplayer stuff. Maybe it will give some good multiplayer hiding spots or something.

Why on earth do people still purchase strategy guides when everything is normally posted on websites such as GameFaqs days prior to the game's release. Hell, you can even get those so called $20 trophy guides at the same website, for FREE! This isn't 1999 anymore, people don't need Guides. Unless you're one of those hardcore nerds who collects them for the colored art.

well just to clarify if you look at it on ebgames.com both strategy guides have an achievement/trophy guide. the collectors edition has a fold out of all 16 multiplayer maps with lamination so you can draw on them with dry erase markers.

Both versions of the MW2 guide (the hard cover *and* the paperback) include complete information on how to obtain the game's Achievements and Trophies.

The hard cover just contains bonus "fan-oriented" stuff, like the Ghost comic book excerpt and a laminated dry-erase MP map foldout. No game-related content or strategy was deleted from the paperback version of the guide.
