Modern Warfare 2 gets more attention with Call of Duty name photo

It looks like the Call of Duty rebranding has had its desired effect, with Nielsen's Video Game Tracking bods showing that interest in Modern Warfare 2 has spiked considerably ever since evil publisher Activision decided to slap the franchise name back on the box.

Three "consumer interest fields" improved dramatically following the name change -- "Aided Awareness," "Definite Interest in Purchasing," and "Total Positive Interest in Purchasing." Comparing the stats between July 6, before the name was changed, and the more recent July 13, one sees a healthy improvement in consumer interest.

It was feared that "brand awareness" was missing from Modern Warfare 2 after it was decided to drop the CoD name, which was likely the driving factor of adding the name once more. If that was indeed the motivation for the constant name-swapping, then the move has apparently paid off.

Looks like a fear of deviating from established franchises has won the day yet again!

GOD DAMN IT GUYS EITHER PUT THE TITLE ON OR KEEP IT OFF...It saddens me to think that potentially thousands (tens of?) dollars and dozens of hours have been spent to decide on a putting 3 words on the box.

Good. Shows them not to just release a game with the most generic sounding title ever. Modern Warfare 2, and coming soon Fantasy RPG 6! then next year Action Adventure 3!

"Fear of deviating from established franchises"? I hardly think that removing the Call of Duty name qualifies as a deviation from an established franchise -- at least not in any meaningful way. The Modern Warfare games are just Call of Duty set in modern times. No deviation there. I always thought the name removal was stupid, as though they were trying to pretend it wasn't Call of Duty, which it clearly is and always will be.

It's good to see that the name change will help dramatically improve Aids awareness.

I kinda prefered it without the "Call of Duty" title, I prefer when succesful spinoffs leave the original title to work by themselves. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles should be named just Crystal Chronicles

What's that you say? Modern Warfare 2 is renamed Call of Duty 6? Alright then.

I'm sure it was the name and nothing to do with the fact of "Oh snap! Night vision goggles!" when "consumer interest fields" improved dramatically.

It is a bit moot to complain about deviating from established franchises when this game is the epitome of a sequel to an established franchise. It's like the retarded gaming child of McDonalds and Starbucks, high fat, high caffine, instant satisfaction with a residual modicum of guilt telling you that you know that out there is something that genuinely deserves your attention more, but it was too inconvenient to seek out.

Plus, if you actually give a damn about whether it has CoD in front of the name, you do not deserve oxygen.

This marketing and PR bullshit is my least favorite aspect of modern gaming. I'd take a good ol' fashioned console fanboy war over this.
