Modern Warfare 2 gets 360 patch, cures AIDS photo

Last week, Modern Warfare 2 was afflicted with a bug that I likened to AIDS because it was exactly similar in every single way and people even died because of it. Fortunately, unlike real AIDS, Modern Warfare 2's AIDS can be patched over. If only we could've done the same for Freddy Mercury. AIDS.

The patch, due to be released this morning, will fix the "akimbo shotgun" glitch and the private match glitch, where people pass on a "bug" to other players that gives them unlimited ammo with no reloads. These exploits shall be no more on the Xbox 360 by the end of the day.

Then we just sit back and wait for the cervical cancer glitch to be discovered.

Don't worry Jim, Freddie Mercury did sing the line 'Who wants to live forever?' So I don't think he minded if we found a cure or not.

Hey Jim, when did the "Haven for cheaters and hackers" PSN get this patch?

The other day wasn't it?

Shame MS can't use some of that money they make from LIVE subscriptions to get fixes through faster eh?

I suppose when you miss the point of Jim's prior article you can reach conclusions like that quite easily.

The fact remains that any users who hack MW2 on PSN can do so without fear of retaliation; hence PSN is a haven for hackers.

The fact that Sony is able to get patches out quicker than Microsoft for MW2 is commendable, but it does not dilute Jim's assertion in his prior article as it is a different point.

glitchers are not always hackers, and getting banned for some harmless and sometimes unintentional griefing is not a fair punishment, specially for a service where you have to pay to use it

how about if we just kick the cheater off the match?

oh whats this? a reasonable punishment?

If you find evidence of such activity you can report it and the XBox Live team will investigate incidences brought to their attention and those found responsible will be banned. I'd hardly call it a haven.

Do you have proof that innocent people have been banned from XBox Live? That's not a rhetorical question. I would like to know.

Again, as far as I'm aware, users who have presented hacks onto XBox Live have done so using modded XBoxes, which contravenes the service agreement.

It's shame that 1887 akimbo didn't change much. A bit of a range was lost, but everything else remains the same and thus 1887 Akimbo is still too good. At least on PS3.

As a quite high usage PSN user (roughly 6 hours a day), i can safely say I very very rarely come across cheaters or hacks. In fact the only time I've seen such things are in CoD games (conspiracy)

The only glitch or hack I've come across recently is the javelin glitch, that was fixed real quick, think i may have spotted a prestige hacked player, they were fixed nice and quickly too.

So yeah, i tend to disagree that PSN is a haven for cheaters / hackers.

I'd so prefer to be banned and to have to wait an extra few days for an actual fix. / sarcasm

Have IW ever been asked why they didn't include a kick player vote system? MAG beta, Socom etc all have a great way of removing cheaters, quick, direct, easy, fair. I often wonder why it's missing from CoD?!?

Community moderation FTW.

The PS3 is a haven for hackers for two reasons:
Easily replacable hard disks allowing users to modify data.
Free online meaning you can make another account.

Wait. Those are good things. Well, yeah, I guess it happens. There's always someone out there who'll abuse whatever freedoms you get.

@captainbus "I'd hardly call it a haven".

I play on both systems and I see no more hacking, glitching on psn than I see on live. I would hardly call the psn a "haven" for hackers and glitchers.

I've played plenty of XBox Live (not as much as I'd like, but that's what having a 3 week old daughter does to you) and not come across a hacked game since buying MW2 at launch. I guess that makes me fortunate, but it certainly doesn't mean there are no hackers on XBox Live.

A haven means a sanctuary, and the fact that people can hack Sony's console to alter MW2 games on PSN without retribution makes PSN a sanctuary. It's not a fact you can simply tend to disagree with.

You can disagree with the method of banning accounts as heavy-handed, if you like. Personally I am glad that there are are consequences to trying to ruin what is typically an enjoyable game to play, but would also see Microsoft turn over patch validation quicker.

I can see that Live is not perfect, but neither is PSN.

@Videodrone31
If I'm not playing with friends, I tend to play with everyone on mute for the same reason.

Well, they may have cured AIDS, but the vacuume glitch and the care package exploits remain. Sign up for a few matches of free for all over Live and you are bound to be sucked into an 18 man free for all spawn camp fest on Rust, where players mercilessly spawn camp your sorry ass for eternity-or until the match ends. Also, anyone else notice that guy running around at the speed of light, stabbing people in the face? Apparently when you have the care package smoke grenade in your hand, your character will run much faster than normal. Combine this with marathon, lightweight, and commando pro and you will instantly morph into Flash Gordon with a knife.

@ Jim, I don't have a problem with your possibly profitable connection to Valve, you clearly have a boner for MS though. You're like some kind of virtual guerrilla rep for MS!

Sure, suppose the same could be said about me and Sony, but thing is I don't have the audience to exploit like you do, and there's no financial gain to be made from my rantings.

Valve are cool, Counter Strike FTW.

You're fat? Wow. Dude, have some self respect and positive body image, stop looking at those size 0 models in glossy magazines! They're not natural, you don't need to look like them to be beautiful...

I'm confused, I thought MS always rolls patches out on Wednesday ... Doesn't MS have a once a week release day?

On another note I am still surprised people think giving 48 hour blocks for cheating is "heavy handed" especially when the recently patched one actually warrants a ban since it involved modding your xbox.

@pl0x kthanxbai: That's the kind of thinking that needs to STOP. Glitching/griefing/"hacking" is NOT harmless.

For those of you that don't play WoW or follow Blizzard-Vision, they recently made it much easier to get the 3rd-best armor in the game, many "hardcore" (read: elitist assholes) complained that this is somehow ruining the game. Blizzard is always adding content that people somewhere will complain about but Blizzard's stance is that if it doesn't provide an advantage or unbalance the game, then it's ok.

My point? Adding custom titles or emblems to CoD:MW2 are all well and good because I could give a shit. The moment you start using an exploit to ALTER THE GAME/experience, you deserve the full wrath of whatever God you pray to. The only ones calling XBL's banning "Heavy-Handed" are the denizens of douchebags who's life goal it is to grief endlessly. "LOL PSN DOESNT BAN SO ITS BETTER" Oh? Well if I have to pay $3/Month(pennies to any adult) to keep those douchebags off of my game for good then so be it. Scoff at XBL's subscription fees if you will, those fees are what make people think twice before engaging in bannable behavior. Sorry, just get cheesed whenever people call this behavior harmless. I'm still scarred from the Search & Destroy mass-team-killings.

TL;DR: STFUAJPG(The way they're MEANT to be played. And I don't mean nVidia*rimshot*)
